Hey guys.

My plan is to cancel my tv and broadband (75 channels and 10mb), and start a new contract with them (they are doing 175 channels and 30 mb broadband for £3 dearer than i am currently paying, with 3 months free!). I have been with them since cable and wireless days and i am getting pissed off seeing all these deals getting posted through my door!

Is this possible? Anyone tried it?

You should call retentions, in the past they have matched new customer pricing (except for discounted period).

Also I believe if you rejoin within 3 months you are classed as a returning customer rather then new customer.

mate there was something on line a statement saying they wont treat new customers better than the old ones, i cant find it

but every year i threaten to walk, i got £1 off my bill and 20mb broadband increase and a tivo box

Call them up and threatened to leave. If it doesn't work first time, call back the next day until you find a nice person. At the end of the day, they want to keep you and prefer to give you a discount rather than you leaving to another company.

Rather than threatening to leave them I always found it best to phone up and say you have been looking at your outgoings and as times are hard for us all you need to "restructure your package". See what they offer and if your happy with that. If not then you can try the Retentions option. That way you have 2 bites at the cherry. Most of the time you will get a better package for less money, but they never tell you that.

i wanted shot of my VM box completely and just have the freeview HD in my telly - but it was MORE expensive to get rid of it than keep it as i was getting the bundle discount. So, i kept the bottom TV package and the box has been sat unused in my garage for best part of a year now.

Ring up, say you're looking at a sky package (have some facts and figures to hand, so u can quote them, even make them slightly lower but know exactly what u want) and ask them if they can match it or better it as you'd 'prefer to stay'

I did exactly as man of science says, ans got 10 quid knocked off my bill and they bumped my 10meg to 20 for free.

I told them I didn't want to leave, but I can get it cheaper with sky and I need to save money.

Make sure its retentions though as they can offer the best deals. First time I rang it was just a customer services rep and they said 'ok, go to sky then'. So I hung up and rang back for retentions.

I asked how long I had to leave for before I was a new customer and they said they did not know, when I threaten to leave and said I was thinking of going to sky they compared the sky offers with what I pay now and said becuase of the amount I download about 15 gig it would cost more to change, I get a £12.50 customer discount from when I started with them 8+ years ago
