a shop i went to yesterday and i asked about the cable boxes and is it worth it. he told me not to bother cos by the end of january the boxes(starviews and kryptveiws etc) will be useless.

he just said all of the boxes will be off cos of the encryption.

they are already n3, i dont see how they are going to change them to something else? after all n3 cost them a fortune?

so if the kv and sv guys managed to open the n3 cards and share them, whats to stop them doing it again, unless they start doing some rolling encryption thing where the keys change every few days, like they used to with n1?

i have also heard that they mite only last 12 month how true that is i reallky dont know i am thinking of getting one but topics like this put me off buying one.

starview 6 and 7 are ment to be a year but never seen this confirmed yet
also the kyrtpview ment to be as long as it can be shared

I would say bo11ox to that !!

Ask him to give a relevant reason as to why?? The encryption one is crap so tell him try again

I can't see how anyone can give a realistic lasting date. (just a sales pitch)

You can say your box will last only 12 months when you have a built in timer that renders the box useless 12 months after activation

I think you are confusing 'guarantee' with 'subs'

These box companies have history of forcing you to buy a new box every 12 months or so by keeping their software closed source and not supporting older boxes... it's how they make their money and it's cheaper than a cable sub so people are willing to pay...

You can gaurantee that starview boxes and the like will not last very much longer than 12 months...

Hello Bob, long time no see (shack days)

Yes, i thought they were guaranreeing. :)

Anyone using the DDigital cable box?

@ £95 and 1 years access to a CS it sounds pretty good value for money.

I'm not interested in buying one as I use satellite, I'm just curious.

the tuner and pic quality and the server is ment to be as bad as starviews

The reason I asked was because a mate asked me about them, but the sales pitch he was told was..."It connects to the Kryptview server".

Now, AFAIK Kryptview have a fairly usable server, one of the best 'retail' servers.

well i asked my local box supplier about these months ago (glasgow)
and he told me to stay clear of them and said them use the starview
servers
i am sure he will clear this up for us when he see's the post

starview own the euroview,,,fact,,and the ddigital is a cut down starview 6/7,,,again fact

What was this shop, a fortune teller...? :)

Now I'm not saying VM are going to ignore the commercial c/s services running, but one thing I would say is that Sky have always been far ahead of VM when it comes to preventing unauthorised access and their CAS is being shared all over Europe...

It is now known that some broadcasters have been using fake control words to send the card serial number over a c/s in order to lock that card/subscriber down...

Will VM be doing the same? Who knows, certainly not some back street shop up north ;)
