20MB MACS connecting at 32000bps - No Connection.

What's going on with the mac addresses this weather?

All my working 20Mb macs are now going operational but they are only allowing 32000bps in both directions and don;t allow access to the Net, even though the modem is telling me it's operational and online.

I was given a working 20Mb mac earlier, it went online for 20 minutes then kicked me off, when I rebooted the modem it went operational no problem but the speed had dropped from 20480000bps to 32000bps and again it wasn't allowing access to the net.

I'm using the macs on a SB4200 running Hackware and an Ambit 255 running Haxorware.

Mate your macs must of taken the 392 byte size config hit...
if this is the case you wont be able to get back online with that mac cos in time it will go from 392 bytes to 1172 bytes
and as you know most if not all 1172 byte macs dont get you online
Even if the modem says operational...

Its been happening for a while pal

on an ambit use macs starting with 00:40 , 00:20 , 00:18 ,00:14 00:0A

those are the only ones i can get to go online, sometimes i only get 20 mins but other times i get days

well at least im not going off my head then, a couple of guys in work had problems a few weeks ago and i said i would help out, they are a sb4200i with the hack tab and a sb5101e with haxorware rev39, i can get 10meg running for about an hour then it reboots and sometimes wont lock back online, other times it wont lock up or down stream, its as if the mac is being blacklisted.
its not a ubr issue and im on the uddingston exchange also.

Can you explain this to me in a little more detail mate.

Yes it has been happening for a while, I used to have along list of working MACS, they've all slowly been killed off with this 32000bps thing.

I blame Gav.

Rodders and Sandy game me some new macs yesterday, all of them done the 32000bps thing, but one of them went online, I was chuffed to bits, but 20 minutes later the fecking thing kicked me offline. I rebooted the mdem and it reconnected straight away but only at 32000bps, lol.

Let's all us Uddingston Exchange people have a massive mac scan and swap session.
I'm badly in need of some fresh macs, and no doubt I'm not the only one.
I'll be scanning UBR13, so anyone outwith UBR13 PM me in a few hours if you want a list of current mac addresses.

Personally, I blame Gav for all this.

This happened in Wales long ago mate, not sure if its happening up there now too. It could be the end for clones

I had a few *cough* *cough*

sb4100/5100 Ambit 250/255

Cannot get any of them online, with any macs whatsoever.

Looks like the same thing is happening here.

My list of 20mb macs dwindled away in less than a month.

I had one particular mac that has been great for years, but it died a week ago. Ever since then I've been getting given macs from various people and all of them either don't connect at all or they connect at 32000bps. I got one last night to connect but it only lasted 20minutes then it kicked me offline and dropped to 32000bps, lol.

The modems I have here are for my Dad and my Mother in law. I've got my own subbed modem as I knew the shit was gonna hit the fan a few months ago, but these tight arses don't want to pay, can't say I blame them though as they hardly ever use it.

I'm hoping Biddy79uk can shed some light on the technical side of things, I'd like to know what Virgin are doing.

I agree totally mate, I think i got into it a year too late. Most of ours went down after a few months. Although I could only ever get 10mb to work, and couldnt find a 20mb, people down here are even tighter. lol

i get about 2 weeks out a good mac but thats only once in a blue moon!

i'll give u my sub mac if its anyuse

btw i cant get and mac sniffers to work, witchy nip onto msn and send me a working one will ye?

A working what, a working MAC?

Pah, if only mate, lol. I've not got a single one.

Don't sniff via a router, connect the machine directly to your modem.

He's asking for a working mac sniffer..

DHCPForce seems to work as well as any......

I have a working sniffer if you want it, but you will have to install Active pearl to use it.

Also one thing to remember is that VM are blacklisting pc/router macs that try to reg more than a couple of macs.

I had both my routers blacklisted, they connected but dl speed was capped at 5mb(speedtest) but you would be lucky to dl at 512k . I had to re-reg my subbed modem with it plugged into my pc and the other router's mac was changed to another pc network card. Both then worked after.

moral of the story, dont use your real pc mac or modem mac when testing.

btw the test router would not connect even with an edited mac, i had to use a different real network card connected to it.

00-18 i use very slow but stays on for months.
00-22 are good 20/50 macs...1 in every hundreds or so lol
on sb5101

oh ya change ya pc mac every time you check them as said above by warlord.
also once ya have a working mac dont take the coax cable out of mod cos ya will lose that mac.
use smac to change your address.

My dad doesn't use a router he is connected directly to the clone modem and has never had a subbed modem connected to his Laptop and he has never used more than 1 mac.

I'll try spoofing his Laptop MAC with SMAC or something similar, and change the routers MAC at the same time. I'll also try a completely new HFC MAC and see how he gets on.
