I'm getting a basic box installed in my bedroom on tuesday.

AFAIK it's the bottom of the range box, which I assume is the V box?

Apart from watching TV, does it offer any PVR functions or anything like that?

I got one the other week witchy.
If it's not the V+ HD then it's std no pvr just plug and play.
No rf out,
It has hdmi and 1 scart.
I found the sd pic quality a bit poor compared to the non hd stb i had and I have a new LG plasma to try it on.
In comparison the spider sd/hd looks good on it, but you know that lol

It's only for the kids to watch so the picture isn't important, lol

Plus the TV is one of these 32" 'no name' ultra budget things from eBuyer, it's the worst LCD TV I've ever seen, the picture quality is attrocious. I reckon the response time is measure in minutes rather than milliseconds, lol.

So, no PVR, no HDMI.

Digital Audio?

What sort of software features does the box have, does it support all those Catchup services like 4OD etc?

The BBC/ITV//Ch4/Ch5 catchup services are mostly free as are some programs from other channels. If you have to pay for a particular item then the menu will say so and ask for a PIN No if you actually try to order.

oooh, so it has all the major catchup things for free?

That's superb, I hardly ever watch shows at the time they are shown. :)

You will proberly get a cisco box which is HD.. All installs are fitted with them.. ALBEIT you will only get BBCHD , ITVHD FIVEHD and posibly FILM4HD.

My dad just had his box replaced on standard M service (not M+) so he gets on demand (catchup) but no PVR. Engineer installed what looked like a used Samsung stb, twin SCART, no HDMI. Very basic but fine for what he uses it for. Catchup is basically iPlayer, ITV player, etc but coming down cable instead of internet. Maybe around 50 or 60 shows a day between the channels and 7 days worth of content. They also do extra stuff sometimes like entire series of a show.

There is music and movies on demand but you pay for those (music is free on XL package).

Spoke to engineer on the phone and he basically said it all depends what he has in his van at the time. You might get a new box, you might not. I guess if you want HDMI or something you can ask the engineer if he has other boxes available.

hi all,

at the moment i'm running a 500c in 2 rooms with the original vermin box in the kids room so this makes 3 rooms in total (2 bedrooms and the lounge)

how does multi room work?

would i have to pay for the instalation into the 3 bedrooms ? as i have already installed it there my self???

i wanted to order 2 HD boxes @£49.99 but i'm a little confused on the website:- am i right in thinking that if i buy the 2 HD boxes then i don't have to pay £9.99 a month per room on multi room??

cheers

They fitted one of those new Cisco receivers.

It's got a HDMI port on the rear aswell as a usb and LAN port, so I'm getting all teh freeview HDTV channels and any Catchup HD stuff. :)

I did a bit of snooping and it's also running a closed source Linux build.

Does anyone know id the rear USB slot can be used with an external HDD?

The USB isnt activated in the firmware....

If your snooping in the engineer menu, use the remote.. the buttons on the box arent as responsive..
