Hi

Been using 250 modem for last 6 months no probs went on net this morning okay, went out came back cant get on net checked everything figured net was down in my area or summat.

About 2 hours later net back on but this time instead of google homepage goes to vm page with message saying modem not recognised need to register. I clicked on link and it said we dont reconize this modem and you need to fill out registration with your details something like that. No matter what website I try to go to it gets redirected to this page.

I quickly disconnected my modem.

Anybody know what is happening here.

Thanks

Try running the attached files for the VM registration page.

I believe it's something to do with the DNS servers. Getnlex posted the fix a while back.

:)

P.S. If the files attached don't fix it then reset your network adapter's IP settings to what they was before ;)

this is my first modem and i input the mac, config etc correctly. restarted modem and noticed i had the same problem as it went to the registration page. i have'nt yet tryed manualy inputing the dns server but will try that when i get back home.. will post results.

also noticed in the modems internal web page the security was enabled (bpi)...maybe this is having an effect!?

any help would be apreciated. thanx

EDIT: have tryed a few macs with same results..also im running a 255 with infinite.

bpi needs to be disable as it sounds like ur in a ntl area!!! use the ambit tool to set ur modem and it will disable bpi also... u will also need a working mac to get past the reg. page

Have had this problem twice.... re mac'd and 100%

Think its more of a problem if you use macs from your local area, never had this problem when I dealt with traded macs, just a guess like...........

Hi

Got it sorted. I tried so many macs fom different areas no joy Then 1 mac I had tried without success I thought let me try that without forcing the config and hey presto problem solved!

So from reading there seems to be a variety of problems causing this problem of registration so try the different things I tried.

Disable bpi
Different macs
Change Usb mac address same as mac address
Dont force config (This is what worked for me)

Previous to this the mac I was using was fine for about 6 months before it started coming up with the registration page and I know that mac was not from the same ubr as mine. Hope this helps.

Thanks

Glad you are up and running again. :)

I have heard of a few people having to remove the force config file and hunt for a (gold) 20Mb mac .

as to why ? up to now I have no idea . Has VM found some way to detect us forcing configs . ??

Anyways . glad you are up and running .

Cheers

Yes in area's that have had the update they can tell now. Something to do with the way the modem provisions on the network.

Can't remember how it works exactly but this will give you a VERY rough idea of how it works:

Modem sends MAC to server.

Server replies, yes your a genuine MAC here's your config.

Modem then sends a request for a 20MB config.

Server replies, you shouldn't be requesting that as it's not tied to your MAC. No Bandwidth for you sonny boy. MAC Blacklisted.

:)

A very good guide Monkey ..

The server that runs TFTP also hosts DHCP and NTP ,
Now I think there is something else on that server which is looking at your mac and what config file you should be downloading .

This service must host a list of valid macs and match them to the correct configs .

I would love to get my mits on that server and do bit of digging .

Cheers

vm reg page fix

start / control panel / network connections / properties internet protocol
properties
then click 'use the following DNS server addresses'

enter 4.2.2.2 for the preferred DNS server
enter 4.2.2.1 for the alternate DNS server

click ok on both screens and close

left click the network connection icon and select repair
