Hi all,

I was wondering is it possible to setup DM600 without a TV. I dont have a TV and would like to watch channels on PC.

Is it possible to telnet into DM600, run scripts (scan channels) and change text files directly.

Cheers

I think you will need the tv for the initial configuration after loading the image i.e searching channels etc after the image is set up there is no need for the tv.

Hi qwqwek,

How are you going to input the signal into the pc? Are you going through the graphics card with the video and soundcard for audio or do you have a tv card in?

He would be able to watch through the web interface. as long as he some sort of cable connection he would be fine.

The problem is to setup the network without a TV.
A graphic card with video input or a old analogue tv card with video inpuit is good in such a situation.
The dream box offer an RCA video output.

Hi Curious,

Thanks for letting me know, I will have to read up on these boxes as I don't know what the web interface is.

What my idea is, if he can watch it when it progged/scanned can he not use the same medium to display the picture during set up, seems he only needs to see the output display to set it up.

If I am well off the mark I apologise as I have no experience of this kit but thought I would chuck in an idea.

@muskrat I maybe mistaken but I have found that the first thing I am prompted for after I flash an image is the language, location and than the transponder scan. Once this is completed you can insert a specific ip address to your dreambox so that you can manage it with your pc. Some images I believe do have a default ip address so that you can connect with your pc but this is quite unusual as most people insert their own ip address depending on their router.

Hi Curious,

I have never seen one of these boxes so cannot comment on this, besides your knowledge of this area is superior to mine.

I was trying to moot the idea that if he can feed the composite output and sound into the comp then that would do away with his need for a TV to set it up.

May have started something here, I may be gaining an interest in thiskit, hmmmmm, lol

I want the device to stream the video which i can view through the vlc player. Do the images (pli/gemini) allow scan through the web interface?

I have seen people setting up emu using the TV, but ultimately everthing should be written to the text files. Cant i simply populate them myself?

@muskrat in theory what you say should be possible and if i could throw the kids of the pc and the dreambox i would be able to confirm. I have read some of your posts and thanks for the compliment but I am just a noob I am very surprised you are not already a fully paid up memeber of the DM600 club. Imagine doing your card once for a PACE box and than never having to fiddle wit it again because it takes care of everything itself afetrwards, thats what you get when you get one of these babies.

@qwqwek the gemini image is fine but i have had a few picture breakups across the web interface with the pli image. mrdudes enigma is probably good for people just starting out with the dreambox and vlc etc. Once you have managed to establish a connection with the dreambox and your pc than you can do anything you want withn the dreambox.

Hi Curious,

I'm a super-noob at the dbox/eurobox type scene, haven't seen one but know someone who knows someone who has one (blah blah).

Not having two ha'pennies to rub together I'm a paid-up member of my missus's walking wallet/driver, lol.

Maybe a cheap terrestrial freeview capture card with an input would be an answer to his problems, knock up a couple of leads and away he goes, no TV needed.

muskrat you are probably right about the freeview card and the leads but alternatively if cost was an issue I would proably borrow tv for half an hour to configure the image so that you can watch it on your pc and than you are away. I was too tight to buy a tv myself so brought a Samsung pc monitor/tv so i could use it with my dream and pc.

I was great eurovox fan myself but that changed once i got myself a DM600, I mean hey a dvd recorder and a cable box all in one for £200 how can you go wrong.

Very true mate, £200 sounds very nice.

The idea of the feeview card would be more expensive but it would give him a permanent solution and terrestrial tv/freeview on his comp, at least an rf in, or with a capture card with composite in, a pvr that can run off any composite/svhs source.

@muskrat I am not sure if i can use a DVB-T card, doesnt it need a terrestrial cable to go in? DM600 has a SCART, S-VIDEO, Composite output but how do i link any of this to DVB-T card?

I am good with linux usually but a newbie to DM600. It seems strange that nobody talks about the behind-the-scene linux scripts in DM600 forum. Is there any place where i can get info on what scripts are called by the remote?

@Curious123 It seems I will get the web-interface up immediately after flash using the pli image https://www.digitalworldz.co.uk/index.php?threads/125054/ However, i dont know what scripts will be called on pressing the remote.

If it's a dvb-t capture card with inputs you just take the composite and audio from the scart and put it in through the capture inputs

The image will probably have a default ip address but how will you know what it is to connect the dreamoox to your pc? Without an ip address the only other way to connect your dreambox to your pc is with a null modem cable. If you PM one of the admins/mods you can join the dreambox school and learn how to mod the images.
