Help Flashing Dreambox

hi guys - i think this is the forum I have been looking for.

i have a 500c and I am trying to flash it. I have dream up on the laptop and when I launch it i am told it is connected and that I have to start the dreambox. I restart the box but nothing happens. I also have the 1.6 firmware just waiting to be loaded.

Make sure that the 'use network' option is UNCHECKED.

Make sure you are using a null modem cable and not a standard rs232 serial cable.

Is a null modem cable different or a standard ethernet cable? Is it a matter of just connecting the ethernet cable to a cable modem to connect the dreambox to the internet? I am new to the dreambox and am trying to learn what I can. I need 20 posts before I can download anything and I need to flash my box. So while I'm waiting for the privialge to download I need to learn what I can. Any help would be much appreciated.

I think I've found out what a Null modem cable is now. I take it that you use it to connect to your PC via the 9 pin serial port. Is this the method used to transfer images to your Dreambox? I've just ordered the cable from eBay as I assume I'll probably need one if I'm going to flash my box. As I said above any advice on what I need and what is the easiest way to do things would be appreciated.

Yes, the null modem cable is a 9pin female to 9 pin female d-type cable. It goes on the com1 port on your PC. This is only one way to flash your dream, there are others, but this is probably the easiest and less hassle.
