i found aswell mate.. thank you mate... for once i thought i was ripped off.. you know i just bought the box 2 hours ago for £70... thanks again m8

that a nice bargin and it work too was it already set to ur netid, i had mine for a week now and the bugger wont change let me change its netid

yes my one was in my area.... do you have a mosc or funcard image that works with tv drive?? as my current image is not subscribed to v+ drive??

i took mine back to the area it was from with a mosc card and it did work got all the on demand talk interactive work return path was on and i had an ip addy but i was getting please wait for the movies but like i said every other channels did work so dunno so maybe u need a different tiers for the tv drive boxes

Whip the 24C512 from underneath the board, take a dump from it and use tbc's tvdrive tool to change your netid. write the now altered dump back to the chip, pop it back onto the board and away you go. If you do this gentlex and you have a working pinbox be a good chap and send me the dump, tried 2 now and still can't get the pinbox up.

u make that sound so ez i dont have a clue about desoldering chips but im willing to learn i will get onto tmc 2moro and get a wafercard thingy and can i use my regular soldering iron to take the chip off..and 1 last thing the box was hit for ex c&w area but im going to change it to tw but i dont think i will get the movies coz might still have that x network problem with virgin software but dont worry m8 once i know what im doing if i can get the movies in the x c&w i'll take a dump from the box first and give to u before i change it to tw netid

ello m8,

i've found that sometimes the PIN needs refreshing, in order to do this, goto tv on demand and watch somin for a coupla mins - after doing so, goto sky movies and you should no longer have "please wait" prompted for ages and no PIN prompt coming up.

This shud now present you with a PIN prompt.

Hope that helps, it works for me.

I use a solderpro 70 with a blower attachment to remove these and other sm chips but with the small pincount on this chip you can easily manage with your regular soldering iron. Start at 1 side first and flow solder over all 4 pins, heat the solder blob with your iron and using something thin such as a scalpel or your smallest jewellers screwdriver, which will slip under the legs, raise all 4 legs just clear of the pads. Repeat on the other side and then just re-apply heat and remove.
Before you remove it take note of its' orientation. There is a small dot in one corner of the chip which denotes pin 1, make sure when u replace it that this dot faces the small smd capacitor C1815 on the board.

Good luck gentlex........Chookey

Cheers for that qwertyasdfg, I'm a bit sceptical that it will work in my case but will give it a go tomorrow. I will have to reconnect the talkback first but will post the results.

Edit.......just had a thought. If I reconnect tb and your suggestion works, when I disconnect again I am more than likely gonna lose the pin function again. I don't fear being caught out by having tb enabled but I am dead against possibly causing an innocent person to receive an undeserved bill. I'll try it anyway but want the pin function without tb enabled permanently.

my hands r shaking and i havent atempt it yet. im going to get what is needed if i can to 2moro and hopefully have a result by the midle of the week but i do find it strange that retun path is on and i can use interactive but no movies the box even says virgin so its most likely only a few months old

Tell you what I'll do then mate, tomorrow I'll get out my unpaired 8300 and try reading the eeprom in circuit. The usb phoenix I am using has a vcc of 5v, I think. This is within the range of the 24C512 eeprom, I think the cpu's outputs should be buffered but I will lift the vcc or gnd pin of the eeprom anyway so that only the eeprom is powered. I will post my findings back in this thread and if its' successful you won't have to lift the chip.
In saying that it is quite hardy, I have replaced mine 5 times now.

thx m8 for that i will still have to lift the chip though funcard or atmega isnt working for me to change the netid

No mate,if I am successful you will be able to write the netid to the chip without lifting it completely. Hopefully will just involve slightly lifting 1 leg. I would try it now but am on my 3rd can which for me means 75% pi**ed.
