Hi, i've been using a cloned mac for a while, still works great actually barring the annoying trafficshaping cap.

I want to change my mac address so that I can carry on achieving 20mb download speeds, however when I change my mac DHCP gains an ip correctly and everything - except I am not able to view anything online and cannot use any internet based services (such as games, web browsers etc..).

I have noticed that when i'm online and the net works I have a subnet mask of 255.255.252.0
however with other macs I use (off of a different nearby UBR) it gives me a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and it's when my subnet is like that, that I cannot connect.

Does anybody have any ideas as to what the cause of this may be? Thanks in advance.

Did you repair the internet connection in the control panel?
Are you using a router, if so try renewing the IP

Renewing the IP was the first thing I tried, no dice. And the modem is plugged directly into my NIC card. Also I have no software based firewalls running.

dont bother about the subnet mask mate, mines is same as yours, sounds like you have probs with dodgy macs, try some other macs mate, make sure they are from like at least 1 or 2 miles away +.

also remember when you make changes to modems with macs etc you need to pull the power out the modem for like 15 seconds then plug back in so as that the changes will take effect mate.

p.s
another thing you can do is use your own subscribed mac address from your subscribed modem if you have one, lots of people will give different opinion on this but me and my pals have been using our own subbed macs for years n years without a prob, up to yourself, you can even use your own subbed and spoof it too, thats another thing.

I get this this on a lot of MACs I have tried, everything comes down, all IPs, default config file, but will not connect to internet or anything. Very weird as everthing seems fine. Only one of my MACs work out of about 50 I have tried.

you tried redoing the modem with
ALL internet security off including windows firewall etc, just a thought as ive had probs in the past with that, security blocking shit etc, just a thought mate.

also, does your subscribed modem work ok ? (if you have one)

My hacked subbed modem worked it my old place fine with almost any MAC I whacked on. When I brought it to my new mates place (has connection, but been cut off over 2 years ago) this is when the prob started. Im sure it's the signal strength as my DBox keeps stuttering every now and again.

what kind of modem is it again mate ?

wo !! 4100, classic for signal problems, ive got a 4100 and couldnt get it to stay on for long as it kept cutting out, the motarolas need a real good strong signal, whats your downstream power level out of curiosity ? type 192.168.100.1 in your address bar and see, password and username is root and root, i think.
