Hihi

Got a Dreambox 500C, it seems to be a fake (see my post in another thread) although it was sold to me as an original, tried one of the firmwares from here and everything works (as long as I use evocamd, mgcamd seems flaky for some reason)

Unfortunately I can't seem to get the VLC streaming to work, I can see the web interface, control the box, view screenshots and on screen graphics but the whenever I try to use the streaming VLC starts and seems to establish a connection to the box but then doesn't display any video...

Is this a known issue, because it's a fake box or have I just forgotten to do something?

Thanks

I've managed to get this to work but only with a different image. When it works, it works awesome. Don't even bother trying to get it to work on the digitaldreamz firmware as it is buggy to hell.

Using the gemini image (with vlc fix) you can stream perfectly, and use remote storage, so the pvr modes work (to an extent)

I can help you out more, give me a shout

Streaming from DM500C...

Hello, how did you manage to get streaming working with your DreamBox? I have tried the DW1.6 image and the Gemini 3.50 image (which has a streaming fix applied apparently).

When I open the vpid link in the web interface VLC opens but doesn't seem to stream anything. In the "Statistics" tab in the "Stream and Media Info" dialog the "Input bitrate" is at 2800kb/s - 3500kb/s but the "Demuxed" and "Stream bitrate" values stay at 0bK and 0bk/s.

I have tried saving the video.m3u file to my desktop and opening the link it contains in a browser. I can download the stream from this location. It downloads at around 300-400kB/s according to Firefox. Does this sound like enough bandwidth to you? Could there be a problem with the network interface / network settings / router?

The resultant file, when renamed to "something.ts" opens in VLC. It plays for a second and appears to contain no streams since nothing can be heard or seen. I even tried opening the file in HDTVtoMPEG which can find nothing either.

I have also successfully mounted a CIFS share on the dreambox, but recording doesn't seem to work.

Couldn't get NGab to work either. Everything else is working fine.

Phew. That was a long post! Cheers!

PS I think my box is a clone by the way.

The DigitalWorldz image is the only one that I've been able to get working with the encrypted channels. You say you've gotten streaming working perfectly. Where can I get these images and how do I get encrypted channels to work on them?

Hi,
I have the same problem with the vlc streaming. I use the web interface to change channels and use BitControl for streaming for the stream, seems to work without breaking up on all channels.
If you come to a loss with VLC try BitControl, works real well even over wireless LAN
