I pay for a 10meg line but it's only downloading at 2mb at the moment

would NTL be limiting my speed if I've been downloading alot lately?

I'm downloading from newsgroups so I know it's not a connection problem at the other end

first if ur usin news groups make sure ur using the most connections that the newsgroup server will let you usualy 8 change this by goin into the server proporties mine tops at about 1256kbs

over the years l have found that the connections on say newsdemon r slower than putting the server info in a program like newsbin or newsleecher always get 1,2mb with these and 700 from newsdemon

yea l know wot u mean , but its something to do with the 8 connection settings in the program

I'm with giganews and when set to 15 connections I normally get around the 1200kbs mark but lately it's really dropped to around 200-300kbs max

i dumped newsdemon the other week as i was only getting about 500kb/sec instead of 1.2 mb/sec. I think Virgin is playing with bandwidth shaping ready for the 20MB, yet if you go to the free news servers (with hardly anything worth having) the speeds are still full

Im on astraweb, imho the best there is...i have 20 connections open and using my ambits a get ROCK solid speed....look at thise meter....its like a mountain plateau !!!!!....
