Hi!

Anyone know if the old SA 8602 boxes have any kind of tablkback notification on them.

I couldn't see any warnings or info about it in any old tutorial at all but just wanted to make sure!

Cheers.

I don't know what model that is but the old jerrold had to cut the wire inside the tuner can and take silver paper out....not 100% sure but is it the black one with buttons on top...big red lcd screen?

I aint to sure what an old jerrold box is, is that the manufactrer like Scientific atlanta or a type like docsis?

Analog cable is way new to me, kinda a forced thing really, know alot more about digi....

it has scientific atalnta written on it yes, also some have jerrold on it too...it is a black, square box with red numbers at front when switched on...also a little black remote and a keypad on top of the box......

hmmmmmmmmm looks like it could be done the same way...u need a chip that maps the channels and a booster thing that codes the box( it comes up with a random sequence of numbers/letters when you press F1 on remote/box)
discard front number abnd write down last...that is the code you will need for box.

analog box don't have talk back what u need is the serial number on the botom of the box or on the cft f2 , i think will show up the numbers convert then in2 a number sequence

ahh, there's no f on the box, got an F on my legit one but dont want to mess with that. not that the cc probably cares, the engineer told me he'd had it in his van for months and months (it was his 1st ever analog install....)

One of my Scientific atlanta 8602 boxes (with the coax loop out the back)
plugs in and gets sky movies and a few adult channels right away. the others are encrypted (it cant quite get a picture, like when I plug the cable feed straight into the tv and do a channel scan) and a few free to air channels are there also. Seems like most of the channels are mapped out thoug, bu the box does get the names wrong on the OSD.

I saw this tutorial http://www.digitalworldz.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=67589&highlight=jerrold and know I can;t use that, but CLive58 dug this old tutoral he wrote years ago.

http://www.digitalworldz.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=101185

I can do al that apart from the resetter (cos I dont have one!)
I don't fully understand the proces the bypasses/programs the encryption at all with these.

Do I nee to use a resetter? and Is there talkback on this model, cos I just plugged it in ;)

Sorry for al the questions folk. Clueless here even after reading up! Anyone got any ideas?

TTT. sorry, still reading up and still not 100% on all this...

If you live near me i could pop round to lend you the ressetter but if you originally had a General Instraments analog box then you were in a TW area i beleive and the Scientific Atlanta boxes were used in C&W areas so they might not be 100% compatible with your area to start with + the analog side of things is winding down now and you will get a lot less channels on those boxes anyway now to make bandwidth room for the digital side of things, i mean why send 1 poor quality analog channel when you can send 10 digital channels in its bandwidth space?
I remember you said you had a situation where you were in an area that you don't get digital but as the digital signal is sent down the same cable, have you tested this with a digital box?

Clive.

Hi Clive,

Cheers for the reply.
The engingeer said it was a totally analog area, in the box accross the road someone had written digital on the connections but he said it was definately not digi. I have a dbox so I'm going to try that but don't hold out much hope as I was told they need to replace all the cable in this area.

I live in south london 0 mins on the train from victoria station. If this helps.

It's def an NThell area and it looks like its an ex-C+W one. The legit sub box is a cft 2100 and the SA 8602 does pick up some of the encrypted channels when I plug them in. adult ones and a movie chanel. but the rest are all messed up, not showing like the ones on my legi box where they are just nthel on the screen.

~Hope this helps explain my situation!
As sonn as I get y dbox back I'l have a check!
