Blanket weed gone for good

Hello

I have suffered with blanket weed since last summer, but now I have none. I have tried most of the remedies that are available from the Garden and Aquarist's shops I will not do that again.

I have found two things that work.

The first is slow but it works eventually, it is Barley straw; I bought mine in a big bag from the garden centre as rabbit bedding and its cheap, the square packs from fish suppliers are expensive and you get very little for your money.

The overall effect was to remove blanket weed that was entangle in my elodea and airation plants very little survived my controll test, but the affected plants did they are now back in the pond.

The second successful attempt at controlling blanket weed was the simple addition of an electronic weed controller, it is a Blagdon one and its running now at almost no power draw.

You just wrap the cable around your filter pipe about 15 turns fasten it in place to form a coil and then plug the ends in to the controller box leads (push hard) these are water proof connectors and then turn it on; if you have a good contact you get a red led and a flashing green led. Job done. I highly recommend it.

A saftey Warning: if you are using electricity outside you should be using a water safe plug socket and the cable should be connected to the mains via a RCD (a safety Trip)

happy pond keeping

alright mate, i use and have used for 2.5 years, this http://www.bio-claire.com/miracleplus.html . absolutely fantastic, keeps the blanket weed at about 1/2 inch on the side of my pond. also makes the water sparkle and crystal clear. contains alovera? incase the fish do get any scratches etc, helps them to heal. by the way had my first lilly flower last week LOL only took 18 months

I have never had blanket weed in me pond it just takes time to get the right balance in plants , i dont use any filters or chemicals

how long you had your pond running? i`ve only got one lily plant but i did build a roof over it to shade it from a lot of direct sun as this is the major cause of blanket weed.

Have had my pond established for over 10year now 18ft by 12ft , depth 3ft to 2" at edge have freash water mint and cress , great for salads , lillys , plus other plants that grow at local pond , just make sure you wash them a few times and keep them in a bucket for at least 2 weeks b4 putting in pond .
