Just found this m8

Setanta considers Freeview football

Setanta may offer live Premiership football via Freeview for the first time from next August after securing two packages of matches from the league today.

Richard Brooke, the Setanta director of corporate development, said that the company, which has just won the rights to show 46 live games a season for three years from August 2007, may make the matches available on Freeview through the Top Up TV pay-TV service.

"We are looking at Freeview distribution. It is a possibility but it is very early days," Mr Brooke added.

Setanta's portfolio currently includes the rights to 60 Scottish Premier League matches and coverage of French, Dutch and German football.

UK viewers can currently access Scottish Premier League games on Freeview through a Setanta channel on Top Up TV, for £7 a game or £14 a month.

The Setanta director of sport, Trevor East, said at today's Premier League press conference that the firm will also be broadcasting the Premier League matches within their seven-channel Sports Pack pay-TV offering, on both digital satellite and cable, ensuring the widest possible distribution to viewers.

The outfit's services will be available for a monthly subscription, with a single price point for the package most likely.

Setanta has also indicated that it is likely to produce its Premiership coverage in-house, possibly with its own presenters and commentators.

Mr East described today's Premiership rights win as an important "milestone" for Setanta following from last week's deal to renew its live Scottish Premier League coverage for another two years.

"The Premier League is a jewel in any broadcaster's crown," he said.

Does anyone know if they will be showing the man u - celtic game?? (and if i can get it in birmingham??)
Thanks!

As far as I'm aware Setanta share a Transponder with ITV 4 which would rule out week day coverage, but should be ok at the week end (mornings & afternoons). Which I suppose would be the most popular anyway.

So would these premiership games be in place of SPL football, or would there be a seperate channel for premiership games to give you a choice??

I would imagine that we'll have to wait and see on that one m8. But one thing's for sure, they'll go with whatever's going to make them the most cash, which could very well put the SPL coverage in jeopardy. Hope they show both mind you.

The SPL will be shown by Setanta guys dont worry about that they have just shelled out £56 million for the rights to show the games including something like 22 non old firm games. Think they will prob launch a new channel especially for the premiership games a bit like the premiership+ channels. However what is in doubt is whether the premeirship games will be on freeview or only on top-up-tv.
