hi guys

what exactly will we get free from freeview box using this?

technically it will only work on boxes that support MHEG-5 type teletext, which is all but a few early Ondigital models (Did work fine on my Ondigital Phillips box from 2001). There are a some overseas models that also won't work.

IMO I wouldn't get a cheap Ondigital box - most are very slow when compared to new boxes (which have more powerful chips - think about comparing a PC with a "historic powerful 1GHZ processor" with a new 3GHz+ PC).
If you think you'd ever be tempted to pay for TUTV buy one with a slot, otherwise any bogstandard box will do - there are cheap ones sub £30 now.

it works fine with my phillips ondigital box from 2000. the speed is slow but there is a method to speed up the channel changing.

prob same as mine (which prob was from 2000 as had it before joining here when I used to pay for full pay-TV!) - was using it up until a couple of months ago when I got a PVR. The speed is slower when changing BBC channels - I got a freeview box for the bedroom a year or so ago and was amazed at the difference in speed.

New freeview boxes also have EPG, and some have reminder facilities (i.e. note when your fav progs are coming on). dgc808 was mentioning old boxes as a cheap option - which it isn't now there are some very cheap.

I bought a grundig box for £40 when they first came out, and no probs with that. I think as long as you can press the red button to bring up services, and are capable of entering the number 0-9, then you're sorted:)
