A new Freeview channel could be up and running across the UK by the end of this year.

The 24-hour channel will be on the MUX A/COM 4 multiplex, and has been created by the release of additional capacity.

In other words, transmitter operator Arqiva has squeezed a a few more bits out of the mux, so don't expect anything exciting in terms of picture quality.:grayno:

Arqiva hopes to sell the slot as quickly as possible, and it could be on air as early as October.

The channel is expected to land at number 53 in the Freeview guide, and could sell for around £7million.

Bid Media, which is handling the sale, is also hoping to sell a midnight-6am Freeview channel and a morning Freeview slot currently owned by a major broadcaster.
