I have an LG DRT389H freeview dvd recorder which does not allow deleting of digital channels.

I have spoken to two different technicians at LG and they say this is due to licensing.

All the other boxes I have used, although not recorders, do allow deletion.

Are all freeview recorders like this, if not why are LG so different?

i have a freeview recorder and i can delete channels,
ie sky sports 1

just go to the ch press ok again and ch list comes up and then ya see at the bottom select/(delete)/edit name etc.

Thanks for reply, must just be LG then for some reason.

Interesting,

It may be worth contacting LG to point out that you purchased the recorder for your kids’ room and are unable to remove the adult content channels and that this is surly a flaw that should be pointed out to customers at point of sale… the idea being that from a moral point of view it may be of advantage to them to introduce this feature through a firmware update rather than receive the obvious bad press.

Thanks for the advice, I have already sent them a very similar email.
Their customer service did advise me I could lock the channels, but I pointed out this does not remove them from the epg which show listings for channels such as 'adult filth' etc

Just received a reply:

Good Afternoon,

Thank you for your e-mail.

The digital signal is carried in 6 blocks of channels, when the unit tunes these in, these are locked into place, because the unit tunes the channels in as a block, the channels cannot be removed individually. The whole block can be removed however this will result in the loss of other channels if they are within the same block.

Unfortunately software updates are created to cover technical faults with the units this does not come under that

If you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us on 0844 847 5454 we will be more than happy to help.

Dear Ms ******

Thank you for your reply.

why is this the case with LG, other brands allow deletion on digital channels?

As far as I am aware it has nothing to do with being part of the signal (please provide further information)

Even if I lock these channels, my children can still view epg info on channels such as 'Adult filth', if the channels were deleted they would not appear in the epg.

Can I suggest a software upgrade to address this matter as 'Freeview' inform me any complaints regarding this matter should be made with the manufacturer.

I look forward to your reply

Regards

Dear Mr *****

Thank you for your email.

Unfortunately, this is part of the signal and so these cannot be deleted as this will be down to the broadcaster, however there is a DTV rating that can be set up to prevent young people watching the channels.

If you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us on 0844 847 5454 we will be more than happy to help.

Hi

I was trying to delete some digital TV channels on this box (mainly the adult porn ones) but find the option is not selectable.
It seems I am only able to delete analogue channels, why is this so?

Please advise asap, otherwise I may have to return the box as there are younger family members in my household who may be exposed to this.

Thanks
