Recently, after making no changes, the BBC has lost lots of signal. Sometimes it works fine (though that's becoming very rare), then it will go all jumpy and not work (even on a clear day) and then sometimes there is no signal at all.

All other channels work fine, it's only BBC channels that are doing this. I don't think it's my end, because I havent changed anything.

Is there anything I can do? Can I complain to anyone about this? And even if I do are they likely to do anything about it?

in the lead up to the digital switchover muxes are moved about the channels m8, try a rescan in case this is the case

its also possible your cable could be damaged (is aerial outside, does cable lie on the roof?) as RF signals can actually travel down a broken cable, with the lower frequencies affected the most

the cap that covers the cable connection into the earial may have split with age, and water could be shorting it out, hence the difference in the signal as even on a fine day there would still be water trapped in the connections, the water could be helping it if the connection has erroded away (the water will act as a conductor and on fine days evaporates) or making it worse by shorting the lot out

my mum had this happening on her set up (in built freeview box in TV and ariel in the loft), her old mate was experiencing the same. Yet I could rig up a spare tv with a local ariel that i plug into the mains (can't remember the exact name for this type of ariel)and get all BBC channels when her main tv could not.

I moved her main antennae in the loft around and recanned for the channels and now she does not loose them at all, mainly used to happen on a sunday afternoon durning eastenders. was never a good time for her.

Hope this helps.
