Hiya guys I just thought I would give you all the heads up that we can upgrade to Windows 8.1 now for free if you have Windows 8 installed.

Just go to the windows store and its there to download, I'm so glad I took the opportunity to get Windows 8 when links were posted earlier in the year.

This program brand new is silly prices.

Regards

Davey H

That's what I'm downloading at the moment the Windows Pro 8.1 it said an upgrade was available for me.

I will update later as to how it installed ;)

upgrade both my pc and lappy without any probs :)

pc took just over an hour and my lappy about an hour and 3/4

including a d/l of about 3-4 gigs ;)

If anyone is using Comodo Internet Security suite, it stops working after upgrading. Seems it not compatible with Windows 8.1 now.

Anyone know whats new with the update, hope they brought back the windows menu..

you will need to uninstall CIS before upgrading, but if you have already upgraded use ccleaner to uninstall CIS and then d/l the latest version of CIS which is 6.3 ;)

windows menu is back m8

well not quite, it now has the windows icon to the bottom left, instead of pointing your cursor into the corner, it still takes you to the start screen as before ;)

Yeah I was expecting it to be more than just this!

new start button takes you back to metro utter shite this upgrade in my opion now makes you sign into an account that must be a registered microsoft account before you can even start using the bloody thing. Cant say im impressed to be honest Im finding this whole windows 8.1 thing utter shite. Im going back to windows 7 as soon as my new hd and graphics card get here for my desktop Im gonna sell the laptop 8.1 is on now just not my cup of tea at all Im afraid

If you right click the new start button you get short cut choices including;

Device manager,
Command prompt,
desktop,
shutdown/sign out,
file explorer,
control panel,
task manager

.....and a few more.

Even though you need to sign in when u first boot it back up (which lock all your network shares also) u can go to user account and change it back to local user..

Is there anything new with it thats worth the download, I like the layout of windows 8 but could really do with a start menu even if it hidden and pops up when you mouse over.
