Hi guys. I have just integrated all of the updates on windows 7 32 bit and I have deleted the ei.cfg files so it asks what version you want. I am wondering is there an issue legally or from a file size point of view for me to upload this to the downloads section?

We have a 150Mb limit for the uploads.

To be fair we have about 8TB of space now so its not really about file sizes any more, but I am not sure how legal that would be for us to host mate.

Someone with more legal skills might know?

Regards
Mick

I don't think it is illegal tbh as it is available all over the net I'm not a layer though lol. The image Would be uploading hasn't been cracked or anything like that. But I thought it was worth asking as we seem to get a lot of people asking . I know we have links floating about but it's still something that gets asked for quiet often.

Lmfa I meant I'm not a lawyer not layer lol

I really like this idea.

Can you tell me a little more @rawsy.

I take it these are windows images without serials and with software/tools installed or am i barking up the wrong tree?

Cheers

Yes mick, all it is , is fresh windows 7 image that I have integrated all the updates to using the rt7 tool. I have also deleted the ie.cfg file which then forces the install to ask which version windows 7 you would like to install during setup. There are no serials or cracks and absolutely nothing which isn't from Microsoft on the image.

I think we should give this a go then :)
@rawsy

How would i set out the downloads section to trial it?

Something like this

- Operating Systems
-- Windows
--- Windows 8
--- Windows 7
--- Windows XP
--- Windows Vista
--- Windows Legacy
-- Linux

or would that all be to complicated and just something like this

- Operating Systems
-- Windows
-- Other

with windows 8 / 8.1 I couldn't get my laptop to instal windows 8.1 directly.

in order for it to activate properly, i had to instal windows 8 followed by endless updates before it would allow updating to 8.1
@rawsy are you saying you can create a windows 8.1 image which will instal on a native win 8 machine?

you should be able to install Win 8.1 without the need for Win 8

even without any os on pc

I think that's because your legit key is for 8 not 8.1,but you are allowed then to upgrade from within 8 to 8.1 for free

yep, i thnk that too, best bet would be to find the most recent version of win 8 i suppose.

I'm hoping that's what @rawsy planning to post.. :)

What is the maximum file size for these downloads?

I am currently uploading a windows XP copy I had on my computer, that is 800MB and is 90% done

Let me know the file sizes needed.

Regards
Mick

last 8.1 i downloaded was nearly 4gb

I do not mind a file being that size @alimac

Just uploading the windows xp software I had on my pc which is 800MB (the first attempt I forgot to adjust the sizes in the downloads settings lol).

The only thing with files of 1gb and more is the resume function, because of the HTTP protocol this is exceptionally difficult.

I am looking for the best solutions now :)

I would hate for someone to be 99% finished on a 4gb file and then a power cut kicks in...

downloading win 8.1 now will check size when finished

Maybe split them into 1GB parts?

I am just reading about chunked file uploads now. it would seem that there is a way to chunk the files in segments so if a file fails it will be able to resume from the last chunk.

Well that is what I am reading about now, the problem though will be making the existing downloads section that is from 2009 work with that!
