Ramming the 5 post rule down people's throats...

Basically I'm wondering, when people register, is there a way of making it perfectly clear that they have to post 5 times before downloading as it seems people are missing the thread and bitching about it, can they be forced to read the thread before logging in or something?

Just wondering as it would save a lot of hassle and longer standing members and mods having to deal with new members who don't look before complaining :)

Speaking of which, mods Ive posted in the wrong section lol, can this be moved to forum suggestions please :)
 
They are bitching about it because some have had it easy for too long ;) been members for months, even years and now cant download, some are just impatient lol

but Im sure Mick could put something in the welcome email :)

Trouble is, who reads that email? did anyone? lol. I was thinking (well, hoping) that they could be forced to see the thread before being allowed elsewhere?

(I think micks done it before when the rant room reopened?) something like that perhaps? Just so theres no missing it then!
 
tbh the majority accept and understand it, ots only a few :)

There will be, ive had them on here and other sites in the past, the admin would like to read a thread before you continue blah blah blah....still wont help if people just want the downloads although for the life of me i dont see what there after as i cant remember ever wanting anything from there lol.

Yeah we had that hack installed and I bench marked it...

it loaded 3-4 extra queries per page (every page)
*On DW it increased load by .2 of a second on every page.

The last part * I tried it 3 different days at differernt times and always had the same impact... its not conclusive but it was enough for me to uninstall


Anyway I am updating the welcome email :)

If it slows the whole board down then needless to say it ain't worth it!

Thanx for responding mick, how many other board admins would make a change from one person starting a moaning thread? None that's how many! :D you sir are a gent :)

That was the good days with the old logger stuck in my pace 4001 capturing the update EMMS lol
