SCAM ALERT 1:
I recieved a phone call by a pakistani yesterday telling me that my computer had a virus, he said he was from microsoft and asked me to switch my computer on and he would run through the problem with me.

Needless to say I told him to f**k Off and get a real job you thieving lazy f**k.

I can only presume he may have been after getting into my network or something. Perhaps he was outside on a laptop or something I dont know what exactly he was upto but he just tried to keep me on the phone pressuring me to switch on my pc.

SCAM ALERT 2:
A cardboard flyer was posted through a mates door the other day saying that they couldnt deliver a parcel, and he was to ring this phone number to regain his package. He said it looked not much unlike a Royal Mail flyer. He had the sense not to phone and did some checks online. It seems if he had phoned it, he would have been charged £315 just for connecting with the number let alone the amount of time he may have spent on the phone.

This is horrible considering there are a lot of grand parents at this time of year waiting on parcels for xmas etc.

But this led me to the idea of apart from facebook and twitter where do i warn others of this scam. Im not sure if there is an actual thread anywhere on this site where you can report ongoing scams so fellow users may spread the word and make the warnings go viral via theyre facebooks and twitters etc.

Perhaps a ticker tape of latest news on the DW Homepage different colour messages for different types of messages etc. eg Red is be warned and Green is be informed. Like a stock market ticker tape only with useful info on it.

What do you guys think? also if any mods know where scams are reported could they please move this to the relevent section thanks and regards for all your hard work chaps and chappesses ;)

I had scam 1 yesterday, paki woman told me she was from broadband support and their server had detected a virus, i asked how their server connected to my pc and when, she could not give me a direct answer so she was told to fook off and not bother calling my number again.

i got the same one some guy from pakistan told me i had a virus on my computer and he wasso persistant as well when i told him i build my own and all ani-virus software is up to date, when i asked him what they had found he couldnt ,i then asked what OS i was running and he said windows i told him he wa talking s*** as i was running linux and we dont have viruses

Just keep them on for as long as you can:

  • Pretend you're deaf and need everything repeating.
  • Someone is at the door, please hold.
  • You're going to the toilet, please hold.
  • Eat something crunchy, loudly.
  • You don't use a PC often, you need everything explained twice.
  • After 20 minutes, you don't have internet.
  • You use Solaris, after 20 minutes.
  • You get a 404 error from their download page.

I don't actually answer the house phone so I don't get to have any fun with these.

I propose a DW competition and will donate points to anyone who answers these and records it :).

Scam2 sounds very implausible - there aren't any telecoms operators that allow premium rate numbers with such costs.

It is indeed implausible.

"Crimestoppers has recently received a number of enquiries regarding a chain email warning people about a postal scam that could leave you £315 out of pocket.

This email is a hoax and the information contained in it is not true. If you receive this information please ignore it."

Someone tried Scam 1 on my Dad a while back if i remember right it was about 6 months back he didn't fall for it either good to know that he does listen too me lol he said when he told the Pakistani to do one the bloke was acting surprised as though he had lots of people fall for it my dad reckons for someone less knowing he would of been very believable.

Do we even allow this term on here?
Sadly, yes.

I don't want to come across like im trying start something here and its totally off subject but I've always wondered if this is actually racist and now sounds like a good time to ask lol is it not just like calling someone Scottish a Scot or someone from Sweden a Swede? Again dont want to come across as racist but if you dont ask you wont know

agree mate, its not racist... but is a sterotype.... either way its harmless in my eyes..

GET OFF THE PC BAND WAGON !! :D

it's a general slang term aimed at all asians, so yes could be offensive. There's no way of knowing if that individual was pakistani. they could have said 'asian' in that statement and it would have read in exactly the same way.

you couldn't mistake a scotsman from being from any other country!

You can call me racist if you want I am just stating the facts 9 times out of 10 you can guarantee if there is a scam going on its always a foreigner of some sort that's in the middle of it. So cut the political bullshit out of the equation and lets get on with the point of interest here. How not to get scammed. Sorry rant over
