***scam alert warn your friends***

i never argued it's always a foeign voice telling me it's "windows support on the phone and your PC is broken Mr. MOS" when it's clearly a scam - I still find it offensive that those derogatory terms are still used. you can still alert people without being abusive

and i've heard many a scotmans hit the roof when 1 of my american colleages call them 'english' - is that not the same difference??!

and i've heard many a scotmans hit the room when 1 of my american colleages call them 'english' - is that not the same difference??!
That is a good point ive seen/heard that happen too. But yet you can get called racist if you write English on your passport form instead of British Ive never even been to Ireland.
But the point in question i dont care what anyone says unless you know a Asian person or people the 1st thing in your head if your phone rings and theres a Asian person on the end of it is scam, what are they trying to sell me, which survey is it this time and how did they get my number. I get at least 2 calls a day from the likes of british consumers and everytime i tell them to stop ringing.

The real point here is... Can DW help protect its members, and better inform them? If so, How?

First of all great post wenglishboy very informative. Sadly some people prefer to joke and this is not good for a site like this, This is what DW are supposed to specialise in informing/helping people. Good question how do you inform people?, well you just keep sending post like yours and it will get through to real genuine people.

you couldn't mistake a scotsman from being from any other country!

lol, I've been mistaken for Irish, Welsh and, even once (by a Texan), German !

I suppose Americans can barely understand their own accents so we can hardly complain if they dont understand ours.

.......Swedish,Norwegians and maybe the Danish sound the same and ive never heard of a Norwegian getting upset because he was called a swede actually if im being honest ive never heard a norwegian get upset ive never met a norwegian or swede for that matter :)

You only think that because you cant understand what their actually saying. When your concentrating looking for the odd word that might give you a clue as to what they are saying then accents tend to become very unimportant so you dont even listen for them. Once you understand the languages you'll wonder how you could of ever of confused the accents. They really are quite different and even their regional accents are just as pronounced as any found in Britian.

btw, Norwegians can get very upset indeed if you accuse them of being Swedish or Danish although they are generally too polite to show it to any great degree.
