BOILED RICE
Making boiled rice is as easy as boiling an egg or making a cup of tea. Why pay a bloody fortune for uncle Bens? No need to wash the rice or fanny too much with it before cooking, however, if you like to rinse your rice in clean cold water a few times before cooking, that's OK too.
To make perfect boiled rice just fill a 7 or 8 inch saucepan with water, 2 thirds full and bring to the boil, or use boiling water to save time. The pan should be no more than ¾ full. Add a ½ teaspoon of cooking oil, ½ teaspoon of salt (add a teaspoon of turmeric if you want some colour). Add 2½ teacupfuls of basmati or long grain rice, bring back to the boil and stir with a wooden spatula once only to remove any rice stuck to the base of the pan and boil on a low heat. In 15 minutes the basmati rice will be ready and 20 minutes for the long grain rice. Empty the pan contents into a large colander and pour a kettle full of boiling water freely over the rice in the colander. Leave for 30 seconds for the water to drain and the rice is ready to serve.. Save any rice you don't use and freeze after it has cooled. It can be reused by adding a table spoonful of water and microwaving in deep glass dish with a plate on top. Once boiled the rice can be fried with egg, onion or various veg to make egg or savoury rice.

I like to cover it with a damp muslin cloth and put in to a med oven 5 mins before it's cooked it makes it fluffy and keeps the grains individual

Good to know different methods

Since I tried Basmati some 30-40 years ago, I never use any other rice

1 cup of Basmati

2 cups of water

1 big spoonful of butter

Melt the butter in a pan pour and fry the basmati in it

Just as the colour is changing, pour water in and stir

Bring to boil cover and simmer until water is absorbed about 20-30 minutes

By the way
You don't need to use 2 1/2 cupfuls of rice. You can use as much or as little rice as you need to the pan of boiling water. 1/2 cup per person and a full cup for two.
I suggested 2 1/2 cupfuls for a family of 5. Just freeze what you don't use.
Thanks to Countryboy's and Idrob's suggestions which are two of many ways to make good tasty rice.

Am I the only one that have a rice maker?, just throw the rice, add some water and press a button
15-20 min later, rice is done to perfection everytime

I'm a microwaver :licka:

Same as the 2 parts water to 1 part rice by volume pan method really - lid on hard boil for about 7mins and leave off the heat for at least another 5.
Using a microwavable container with a little hole to let the pressure out, microwave it for 3-4 mins full whack, let it sit for 2-3 mins, give it another 3-4 mins full whack, then let it sit with the lid on for a few more mins before you fluff it up.
And if I'm adding peas n corn or whatever, it goes in for the second microwaving.

Done
