Hi there,

Sorry if this aint the correct forum, but soon im moving house so wont be able to use my dbox2 (as I wont have NTL in the area) so was wanting to get some kind of similar setup via satellite - but with the ability to receive HD channels.

Anyone any help please?

Hey sleepy

To recieve HD transmitions you need a reciever with a DVB-S2 tuner, or you won't see the picture, the 2 is important. Don't think there are too many of these, I only know of a couple, the Pace DS810 KP, the Inverto IDL5000 HD, QualiTV QS1080, and I think theres a Humax, but they are not cheap, also there arn't too many HD transmitions either. I don't think the software on these recievers is patchable either, so you'll probably need a cam, and also a subscription to a package that has an HD or some HD transmitions. I personally think its to much cost for a little in return. Go for the satellite option but forget HD, for a while anyway. Altho a cheaper option maybe to look for a DVB-S2 card for your pc.

Have a look in the motorised section, you'll see what you need.

Hope it helped.

theres talk of technomate releasing a HD reciever later on in the year, maybe darkman will branch out as there will be a huge demand for a budget HD recieverjust as there is for the budget 1000 series of digital recievers

at the moment there is only 33 HD channels available across the whole sky, 16 are encrypted, 11 are promo channels and one is a german feed.

i'll compile a list later of everything thats available and add to it as more stations start HD broadcasts

ive made a complete list of all the Hi-def channels available, you can find it here

enjoy

There may not be that many channels in Hi-Def yet but if you have a true Hi-Def tv then another 300 quid or less for a Humax HDCI2000 is a snip. If you only have one of these cheap n fake "HD ready" TV's then maybe dont bother going HD yet until prices fall and more channels are added and you decide to upgrade TV.
Digidudes list does not yet show the important BBC HD channel(s) - :p which will be showing the World Cup in HD so if you are moving and need a sat set-up by then you just have to get a Humax first!!!!!! Then I would say you may want to expand your satellite set-up and get maybe a Technomate when you want to add more choice, or even just add a Dragon CAM to the Humax HD!

Dont forget that for many people there will be lot of channel choice with a free-to-air receiver & sat dish pointed at 28degrees. Not everyone wants 'pirate european stuff', not everyone wants 'Sky Advert Packages', so I would still thoroughly recommend connecting up a Humax HDCI2000 to a small sky dish and getting dozens of great channels even though most are in SD.

Just my pennies worth, but still think 'HD Ready' TV's are a rip-off.
Regards
