Hi All,

I'm looking at going back down the motorised dish route after a few years. I used to have a Fortec Star 4700 on a 90cm dish but moved and never rigged it back up. I've picked up a 2nd hand 1m dish and still have the Diseqc ? motorfrom my old set up.

I'm looking at a TM 5402 M3 as it suits my price range. I'm not too clever with computers and find all the terminology (CCCam,CLine, etc),a bit over my head at the moment, but assume the 5402 will give me a good base to learn the basics.

I have a clear line of sight in the south from around 50 East to 20 West, so hope to pick up plenty of satellites.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated over my choice of kit.

Many Thanks

Things have moved on a little since your last foray into satellite. We all used to open packages with keys but now the providers have tightened up there encryption. The way round this is using a cline. This is basically access to a server that shares a genuine card between many. Technomate are still good receivers if lacking a little in support, I think there are rumours that a load of new receivers are due out this month so it might me work handging on a couple of weeks, of course this is your choice. Your new box which ever you choose will need to be linked to the internet either via wifi or cabled to get the most out of the box.

Thanks for the reply. I was going to ask if anything new was coming out, but then thought existing technology would probably be best as all the glitches will have been sorted out, presumably, and new stuff will probably be more expensive.

I've had a look at a few suppliers for the TM 5402 and some are offering a preloaded system (with channels already in place etc) for an extra £20 approx. Also flash drives and HDD's at seemingly high prices but ready to use with the receiver. Are these extras worth paying for ?

Many thanks

Well I'm glad you have had a look around, people will spend a lot more than they need to do to just get plug and play. You have seen already that suppliers will lift a price if they think a customer is not willing to do the work there selves. Price up how much a standard usb stick or hdd is to how much they would charge then think is it work trying to install it myself. Usually with usb stick its just formating them, and installing a hard drive is just plug in and then initalize via the remote on the box. Be carefull when buying a box with a gift. When it says all channels it is simply refering to a card sharing share. This is not allowed to be talked about on this forum in detail, but if you buy with a gift on something like ebay be aware that lots stop working within a month or so. It's not really an issue just google cccam server on google and you will be inunated with choice.

Ahh. I now see what you're on about with the 'all channels' stuff. I think I'll get a new untampered with box and start from scratch. Same goes for the HDD etc, half the fun is trying to figure out how to do it yourself then asking someone who actually knows what they're on about when it all goes pear shaped.

Thanks again
