I was just watching this.
Optical ROM reading is something I'd like to try on something. I didn't notice him explaining the chemicals but I'm guessing hydroflouric acid was involved and I think that may be a mask ROM.

interesting, the DC2 is a US standard and not DVB for us
also he did say the DC2 ECM is every second where as ours ECM is every 8 seconds - so in theory if this was set up with CS to get a key every second would not work due to network bandwidth utilisation etc and could expect alot of glitching
