Hey guys

Unfortunately my VU+ Solo might be on its way out as I can't seem to get it going so thought I'd start looking at alternatives. :S

I've not been following developments but back in the day a DM800 could be had pretty cheap from china.

What are my options?
All I need is a single tuner box with streaming capability. Linux would be an advantage. Money is tight at the moment so cheaper the better :)

Thanks in advance

If you want nice and cheap go with the Zgemma range if your not that bothered about price for a little more go with a solo 2 se best bang for buck in my opinion.

I think the vu+ range might be out of budget.
the last reciever I bought was a dm500 for 20 quid many years ago haha, thats why I quoted the dm800, it could be had for a little bit more than that.
How cheap can these boxes be had for? Price will be important.
What is support like for these boxes?
I don't know anything about IPTV but someone told me to get an amazon firestick for streaming so was going to start reading up on that.
Can our linux boxes do the same as what these kodi boxes can do?
Thanks again

Kodi/android boxes stream most dont have sat tuners but Kodi can use tuners if installed. Sat boxes receive signals and can stream at some level but the Zgemma boxes that can be had for £60-70 can not use native Kodi to the VU+ Solo 2 SE can.

Thanks again for the reply.

Can you swap out the sat tuner on the zgemma boxes for a cable one for when the sat scene goes tits up?
I understand that the zgemma HS boxes have more cpu than the S boxes, what does this mean in real life terms?

My understanding of IPTV is 0. Is it a big problem that these boxes can't run Kodi? My understanding of Kodi is that it is some sort of app that allows you to pick up certain streams?
Is there an alternative app available for the zgemma that allows you to pick up these same streams?
or am I better off not bothering with streaming on the zgemma and getting a dedicated device for streaming like a firestick or android equivalent?

Thanks again

You can buy a Zgemma box with cable or sat tuners or both. But the tuners are fixed

Got ya.

Thanks

And I would prefer this box to be my server.
Does it have a good track record with oscam?

Kodi is a multi-media app that can be used on most OS.

In its raw form it will play and manage vieos, pictures music etc from your network, in addition to that it can work as a PVR if you have tuners on your device

The naughty thing is that is also has access to addons / plugins that scan the net for streaming content.

Set it up with all components and it cant be beat

Thanks for the comments fellas
So when you say you cannot use native Kodi on the Zgemma boxes, what does this mean exactly?
Is it worthwhile to get something like a firestick to run as a dedicated kodi box?

Thanks again

Native kodi would be the same versions you would run on a firestick or android boxes the Zgemma does not have the power to run it. The VU+ Solo 2 does.

Your choice a Zgemma and a firestick is not a bad combo.

Thanks for the advice.

Just to make sure I've understood correctly, The zgemma s and hs only allow you to record what you're watching, while the 2s and 2hs allow you to record a different channel at the same time. Is this correct?

just a bit confused by the dvb-s2 tuner bit.

It'll be alright as an oscam server wont it?

Cheers again

The s is a single sat tuner the 2s and h2s have 2 tuners so watch one record one.

What about a Wetek openwlec or a PC running Openwlec. With these options you run the sat from within kodi

You could add a USB DVB-T2/C card for about £20
