Hi all, I'm new here but have been reading a lot of posts around and have learnt what I think I need to do. However, before jumping in, I thought I'd just gather some thoughts from those of you who are informed and experienced in such matters.

So.. I'm thinking of purchasing an Aljazeera sports card this month. I live in the UK in Essex, and have a 20 x 15cm dish up with a Humax Foxsat HDR500 receiver. Please can someone help me with the following questions before I decide to make the purchase:

1) Looking online it appears that i need to buy either a Viaccess cam or an Iredeto cam to use with the card. Which one should I go for? Will they both work with the Humax Foxsat HDR500 which has a CAM slot?

2) Are there any differences between the Viaaccess and Iredeto cams? Is one more reliable than the other etc and which is more future proof for this card?

3) I see on Ebay that you can get a card that unlocks channels 1-8 for £90, but then a card that unlocks 1-10 for £120. Is it worth spending the extra cash? Which is best for HD content?

4) I will mainly be using 13E Hotbird to receive these channels but I can also pick some of them up on 26E Arabsat and most recently 7W on the new AtlanticBird (including the HD ones). Will the card I purchase be able to work across all three satellites?

5) I currently have a quad LNB (correct term?) with a small dish which I want to keep for Sky in the kitchen. But am I right in thinking I will have to purchase a new larger dish to pick up Hotbird 13e? If so, what is the cheapest LNB I will require?

6) Can any recommend anywhere cheap and reliable to buy the card/cam? I have seen cams on ebay for under £20, where as most outlets sell for £30-£40. Do they have an expiry date or something?

Sorry for the bombardment of questions. Not expecting everyone to know every answer but any help will be much appreciated!

Many Thanks in advance

1) Sorry no idea if cam will work in your receiver.
2) Irdeto is better, there are issues some receivers using viaccess and juttering picture.
3)10 channel card is better though no HD on either.
4)Works across all satellites.
5)Yes bigger dish required, also Inverto black ultra 0.2db lnb is excellent.
6)A second ham irdeto cam will do, a lot more expensive ones do HD where available.
