Hi all, I'm new to all this so I hope I don't come across as too stupid :Jester:

I'm looking into a satelite system to complement my V+ hd cable set up.
Basically I have sky sports and enjoy watching premier league but unfortunatly there are a lot of matches not shown, I know a lot can be streamed via the web, but to be fair I would prefer to watch on the 50" plasma, or I can go to the pub as a lot of my locals show football from none sky channels etc.

I've even been in pubs in the lake district that were showing iirc novasports channel.

Can any of these channels be recieved with a motorised dish and something like a spiderbox (had a look on ebay) or will I need these card things etc.

I'm still new to all the terminology to be honest but happy to learn,

Thanks in advance.

Stu : homer :

Come on people, I know I'm new and don't have many posts, but everybody's gotta start somewhere

yes mate you'll get all the sport channels from a few sats with that once its all setup and configured properly, if your new to it you will prob be at it for days if not weeks so you'll need plenty of time an patience, the most important things you'll need is an internet connection and connection to a server or payserver to view the encrypted channels which will cost you about £120 per year, the spiderbox can be bought with a gift which unlocks the foriegn sats, do a bit more reading before you jump in if need

Thanks for taking the time to give me a few pointers, I've got a mate who I think mentioned he has a spiderbox and motorised dish, (Well I defo know he's got the dish) so I will also go and get some advice from him.

are you particularly interested in the spiderbox?

there are a wide range of boxes out there, if you give people a price range and what you want/expect from a box, i'm sure they'd be happy to recommend what they think would suit you best. :)

Cheers people I will have a read up on that link charlie senator has posted and I will have a think regards budget, main thing I would like to do is watch the football that I cannot already get on sky and espn, blackpool and man united matches, HD would be nice too.

Stu

I've found a firm not too far away from me doing a technomate 5400ci and 90cm motorised dish for £350 fitted, but from other stuff I have read up on I could get a what looks a much better HD set up for less and just fit it myself.

Still not had a chat with my mate who I think has a dreambox, think he's round here soon, his cars broken lol

Just visited my mate's, he has a spiderbox 7000hd with gift

I think this will be the route I will take, found the supplier he has used too.

Gonna do a bit more reading first.

Hi stu, just be a little cautious of the dish kits you can buy on ebay, cheapest isn't always best, and usually they sell the lower quality steel dishes, motors and brackets. You will be better off paying a little more for good quality branded stuff (brackets, dish, fittings etc) from online shops that other members here use and can recommend.
Best wishes

Thanks Popcorn, have you had any dealings with *****? Thats who my pal purchased through.

Thanks for the advice Popcorn, The company my pal purchased from when I posted on here the name came up as *****

I'm new to the forum. Is it an advertising filter?

I have never dealt with al$@t so I cant comment on them.
I meant generally shop around for the hardware, if your fitting it yourself
I have used southern satellite, sateuropa and hisat and have always recieved excellent service from these suppliers, as I am sure there are others I have not mentioned. Decide what you want, then shop around for the best price.

Popcorn, I've started having a look through the suppliers you've mentioned.

Out of interest what system do you have (if you don't mind me asking)

if going for motorised mate, get the biggest dish you can get away with at your house

look at dishpointer.com and put your postcode in to see what sats you can get from where you are, have you got a south facing wall?

also think about what subscription too, if going down the buying a card route it can get very expensive, theres also other way too.

dish needs to be a good quality one, no point buying a no named branded 80cm from ebay as i can bet ya it will be crap.

search for gibertini, triax and Fracarro Penta, all make decent dishes

LNB, go for Inverto Black Ultra (single, twin or quad)

Motor, go for something metal geared, Technomate 2600 is pretty good and not too expensive.

wall mount, defo T&K mounts with 2" pole

then its just choosing the receiver, if possible, id go for something non-clone, Vu+ solo, Blade Media 7000s, TM800s are a few decent ones

it all adds up but its wise to buy decent stuff now and save headache later on.

im no pro in this field, its just what i have read in the last few weeks whilst researching when buying my kit :) (Here

I do indeed have a south facing wall, even better its at the rear of the house.

I will follow your asvice when looking into the dish.

At the minute I'm swayed towards spiderbox 7000 HD with gift, what happens when gift expires? (my mates had this receiver around 6 months, I had a look at his yesterday, looks adequate for my needs)

I'm still very new to all this, so peoples exp is always handy

just been on the site you mentioned

1. 28.2E ASTRA 2A | ASTRA 2B | ASTRA 2D
2. 13E HOT BIRD 6 | HOT BIRD 8 | HOT BIRD 9
3. 19.2E ASTRA 1H | ASTRA 1KR | ASTRA 1L | ASTRA 1M
4. 16E SESAT 1
5. 26E ARABSAT 5B (BADR 5) | BADR-4 (ARABSAT-4B) | BADR-6

im not sure what channels the gift exactly clears but you will find most of the footy on 13E (sly italia), 19.2E (sly germany), 16E (tring)

you will need at least 1m and clear view to get 26E

just need to find out what the gift gives you (not looked into spiderbox so not sure tbh)

tbh most people who have a setup for the footy watch 95% sly uk then move sats to get the 3pm footy.

defo look into a decent setup though mate, will save you headaches in the long run.

Presently using a 1.2m Gibertinni with a TM-5400 and Manhattan Plaza for feeds/fringe reception and a TM-600 and Fracarro Penta dish for tv/pvr.
I tend to collect satellite stuff, dishes mostly, I like testing them out to see what works best. I prefer Orbital and Gibertini dishes to most others for various reasons but the Fracarro Penta dishes are quite good also, if a little more expensive. As for boxes I have had quite a few but prefer Technomate as I find them easy and quick to use. TBH many people want sharing etc - fair enough, but I am more interested in scanning for feeds and fringe reception so what I like will not suit everyone. I am really not the person to ask about sharing.
Once you set the dish and motor up you can swap and change boxes easily as most are quite cheap and generally pretty good.
For an 80cm size dish I would go for a 85cm Fracarro Penta (squarish shape)
For a 1m dish I would go for an Orbital or Gibertinni aluminum dish.
For a motor look at Moteck/Technomate/Darkmotor etc.
Good quality Galvanized T&K brackets (if mounting on wall)
Steel scaffold pole from builder etc
WF100 coax cable
Lnb Inverto black ultra single or twin.
The above is just my opinion if I were buying it (it's what I use)
As for the box that's your choice I'm afraid, but remember new models tend come out quite often these days.

Bigup was posting while I was typing lol.
Just to add if looking for 26E BADR 4 go for a 1m dish if you can, forget BADR 5 and 6, unless you can get away with a 2.4m / 3m dish!

Thanks again, to popcorn and bigup, certainly food for thought, I will look into buying the components seperatly as I was initially looking at packages.

Will I be able to get football without cardsharing or similar, I've found a website listing what channels are showing the games that I cannot currently watch on my subscribed service, a prime example is blackpool and liverpool wednesday evening.
