What system is being used?

ok, straight off the bat i know hee haw about sat tv or sat boxes etc, however im doing some research for my m8 who wants one.

he wants a unit that can easily replace sly tv.

he has a 100cm dish already installed for sly tv,

ok heres what he is looking for, all the football being broadcast ie any live footy from sultana and sly sports and all the horse racing.

hes not fussed about movies or any entertainment but some music channels would be a bonus.

any ideas or input would be greatly recieved, and of course its got to be available in the usual manner

ps i dont normally play here in sat tv land, i normally play with cable. so aplogies in advance. i also would use the search button but i dont know what im looking for or where to start.

If your mate wants sly sports then he'll have to stick with sly.
However, many live games are shown on other channels on different sats.
They use different methods of encryption. Some are hacked and some not.
Have a look on live on sat to find out where the game you are interested in is being shown.

Depending on where abouts you are, a 1m motorised dish and a Technomate box is a good starting point. Which box is up to you. I have the 6900 combo which gives me HD too. The 6900HD Super also allows cardsharing for potentialy even more channels.

he wants to adjust the dish he has and just watch mainly sultana and any english premiership that is being broadcast and the HORSE RACING.

Motorised will give you the best options tbh.
Games could be on 1W, 13E or 16E etc.
You could also do it with a monoblock, which will use one dish and multiple lnb's.
His existing sly dish wouldn't pick up the weaker "foreign" satallites, only the strong ones intended for this country, ie 28.2E.

If he wants setanta or sky (as you keep mentioning) then tell him to get a digibox and subscription.

If he wants more choice of football and lots of extra stations too, then tell him he needs a motorised dish and a technomate receiver, or a dreambox if he doesnt mind complicated.

The english brand names like sky or setanta are not relevant because they arent hacked so you simply have to pay if you want them. Euro satellite tv offers lots more, but currently you do need motorised to get the best choice imho.

he doesnt want sly or sultana only the games broadcast on them. maybe from another provider somewhere in europe. im sorry if im not making sense. im trying not to mention too much and get the thread deleted.

for example say celtic was playing rangers tonight on sultana, would it be on another station somwhere in europe but not being broadcast by setanta, but some other channel in europe in dutch or german.

am i being a wee bit more clear.??

as i said im a noob to sat tv, ive never had it. im in a cable area so thats enuff for me.

my m8 is tryin to avoid subscribing to watch the spl and racing, this is what ive been trying to get to.

yes mate most matches are shown on other satellites so there shouldnt be a problem there,he has the 1m dish so if he puts a motor on that,it will give him the best chances of finding these games,he will need either a technomate receiver or dm 500s and i dont think there is anythink in your posts that would warrent them to be deleted so your safe enough there

just a quick question, whats the best technomate? no recording neccesary and an eezy peezy flashing or patching would be needed. hd not needed either.

think its the 5400 or 5300 and they are suposed to be cheap enough

Take for example our easy 3 pointer this weekend lol





Instead of watching the game on ss1 I could watch it on C+ Sport 1 or Nova Sport

Being a mod, Pinkhelmets is reluctant to comment on Card Sharing, so I'll do it.

Your mate will get all the Sky stuff plus plenty of other foreign packages (English Movies, football, Hard Core Porn etc) if he reads up on CS..

I would opt for a Dreambox instead of a Technomate.
