using following hardware

P4 2 GHz
1 GB RAM
300 GB HDD

TwinHam CAB-CI 20310 card

so far I have installed the software/drivers that came with the card (TwinGTV), did a scan and picks up all channels - obviously can only view FTA ones.

I then installed DVB Dream and configured it with the Device TwinHam Direct (couldnt select BDA Device) and created my own transponder file using the cable.xml from my Dreambox as a reference to settings

now the problem, when I scan the channel, I get a 98% signal strength but all I get is no channel found - I assume from this it is detecting the signal.

Anyone any idea's why DVB Dream cant detect channel yet Twinham DTV can.

an update

using the TwinHam drivers and using Twinham Direct for Device in DVB Dream I get the No Channels Found

now when I change the drivers to BDA (downloaded from TwinHam website) and select BDA device in DVB Dream I get the error no signal

either way none of the above yeilds any channels

you'll need to install vplug mate to decrypt the channels :)

Cheers

aint done that as yet, was hoping to get all channels scanned, and made sure FTA ones first then then try the vplug

when I installed the TwinDTV software that came with the card all channels were detected and also I can view FTA channels no problems.

It seems you've installed the correct driver for the card Twinhan under other models v1.2.3.8. is that the driver you used??, to start the card it's something like options/device/BDA/start, your card should be named at the bottom. the last time I used DVBDream it only used the 5000.ini transponder to scan for cable (although that may be wrong now), the idea was to overwrite that with your file, have you tried that? is it set to scan DVB-C, I think it's under channel list options.

ok update all working

my friggin transponder file wasnt correct, created one using Excel to calculate the frequencies in steps, then manipulate it in Notepad to get format correct and finally all channels scanned and got FTA

then put on vplug and bloody hell I thought worked staright away got the sub channels

couple of points

some channels are named as Namless - anyway way to get them to the proper channel name

also my PC is connected to Plasma via normal monitor cable - will it send out HD channels in HD (card does support HD)

also whats best codec to use for HD - at the moment it is set to NULL

also the skin looks ugly to me say compares to the dreambox jade3 skins - can I create my own.

also noticed the version of DVB Dream 1.4i on the main website does not include the BDA 2.1.0 drivers - had to find a hotfix for this which included a new exe and bda.dev file - not sure why the main site doesnt have this file.

If anyone wants these hotfix let me know.

This was happening to me and thanks to a post by willin i got it sorted but i had to install v1.4h then went to every nameless channel, right clicked selected properties and "update all" and the channel names appeared.

so I have to go back to 1.4h - for these nameless channels to get updated, can I still use the latest BDA Device file ?

Do as lorrebreaker says (right click etc) before you go to an earlier version, I think it's vista that don't like the latest version with naming the channels, if the TV connection is VGA that's analogue DVI would be better, really HDMI is what's needed (sound and video). options/renderer (I think) and choose a different codec depending what is installed on your machine, no skin that I know of.

I updated the channels and the channel names as correct now

one last query, my DVB-C card supports 1080i HD channels, I have downloaded the CoreAVC codec that seems to be the best one to use with DVB Dream and selected this in the video preference, however when I go to say ESPN HD I get no video/sound

I think CoreAVC is h264/MPEG4 only. HD on cable is MPEG2. You should still get sound, though. Have you got an AC3 audio codec set up?

I installed a HD pack - which I assume will have said codec

only options I have for codec is

video
audio

H.264

will send screen shot when I am at home.

If VM transmit HD in MPG2 format, whats best codec to use.

Also does it make a different what graphics card is used, as the desktop I am using has on board Intel graphics card that comes with the Compaq desktop. As stated earlier in thread, the PC is connected to Plasma TV via the normal RGB VGA monitor cable - do I need to use HDMI to get HD content (if that is the case then the best/cheapest low profile agp card that has HDMI output)

Cyberlink and Intervideo are fairly popular. I prefer Nvidia Purevideo myself.

VGA can carry full HD, but being an analog connection, the quality isn't going to be as good as HDMI. VGA input is kind of rare these days, though. Is this an old plasma?

no its a new Plasma (LQ 42PQ6000) after a low profile AGP with DVI output then can use the DVI to HDMI connection and plug into HDMI on TV

I have AC3 as sound codec, get sound on non HD channels still no sound or video in HD channels - even installed the codec for MPEG2 HD

Odd. I'm not familiar with DVB Dream, but I seem to remember some discussion about some of the DVB apps not supporting HD, unless you buy a full version. That might also be the case for whichever video codec you settled on, but I'm more inclined to blame the app itself, since you should still get sound, even if the video isn't working.

right some progress all be it no solution, I ran ProgDVB and this time I got sound on HD channels but no video.. didnt get much time to mess around so will have more time this evening.

I use dvbviewer as my default viewer but i have noticed on dvbdream & ive no idea why that if i start the program and its already on a hd channel i get no audio and just 1 frame of video.

If i have it starting on a SD channel then switch to an HD channel then it works fine & i get both video & audio. Dont know if thats just a problem with dvbdream & my pc, but it does it everytime.

I have powerdvd/power cinema installed so use that for my video codec and i use AC3Filter for my audio.
