would this work with a bricked dm500s ?

No

Usually if a 500 is genuinely bricked and you carnt connect with dreamup it will need to be jtagged

i can connect with dream up but when it tells me to switch on the box it has an amber light and wont do anything else , if i remember correctly it worked till i flashed it then would not come on again.

Sounds to me like the last image flashed corrupted the boot loader or you have a weak PSU try another psu first.

Are you using genuine null modem cable or usb adapter ?

yes null cable with a usb adapter

Dont trust those things but if your com port is set to give you a connection it must be working.

I'll revert back to the bootloader been corrupt and it needing jtagging.

is there a jtag tutorial to follow?
