I was very interested in Dreamboxes I am a complete noob on the subject though. Can someone tell me if they work on U.S. Cable Networks or is this strickly Euro stuff? Any help thanks to all.

Canada and Spain

Do you aso know if they are likely to work in Canada (Vancouver) or Spain (Madrid)?

Thanks

I think the the problems facing u are the types of encryption that the CC's use and knowing the freq's and symbol rates the box has to operate on. There may be other technical issues as well but the likes of mgb and Liam could answer those. I'm in the process of trying to get one working in Norway at the mo and I will post the results when (and if lol) anything happens.

well the gemini image used on the dreambox has an online update and one of the emu plugimns states that it is for north america

I will be trying in both Vancouver and Madrid in the coming month.

Will let you know how it goes

If you do your research before you go then you should be OK :)

You'll need to find out:
1. The encryption type used by the provider in that country.
(I.e.. NTL/Telewest UK use Nagra1 encryption. Sky UK use NDS encryption.
Providers in spain/france/middle east tend to use Conax and IrDeto or SECA2)

2. The symbol rate that the network runs on. We use two different symbol
rates in the UK. 6887 and 6952 (depends on your area). You can usually find
out this information from a subscribed box from that country. This "symbol rate"
is vital to you using your box abroad.

3. The frequency range that the network runs on. You will need this information because you will need create a cables.xml file for that country. Using our "bruteforce" scan files simply wont work.

4. Keys. If you are lucky, then you may find that the box will update itself, depending on the EMU/CAM used, and the network/encryption type. For providers that do not autoupdate, you may be able to manually download the keys over the internet; via the on-screen update menus in some recent images.

You normally find out all the above information by quickly searching google.
Im willing to help where I can.

Liam

Nagra2 for Bell ExpressVu and Dish network is currently hacked in north america. I don't know if that providers are also available via cable feed beside satellite

OK THANKS ALL FOR THE INPUT ....By North America I do mean the United States. I'll post up more info on my trials as I find a reliable supplier of the boxes and gather more info.

I'm trying to either GO WITH my LOCAL CATV...WHO IS TIME WARNER.

Or I have 2 options for Sat TV ...DISH NETWORK and Direct TV.

So I have a total of 3 options from all the info I've gathered you guys are telling me the Dreambox will work on either Cable TV or Satellite whatever you want? If this isn't true please correct me. Next does anyone know what company looks like it'd be easier to use.

FROM WHAT I KNOW DishNetwork and Direct uses Nagra 2 encryption I don't know about anything else about their specifics. Liam if you could could help me out with getting some other info for me or tell your best knowledge on which box would work on these networks I'd appreciate it.

:)

P.S. Thanks Liam for the detailed response.
