Streaming from PC to Dreambox

I have a couple of posts up mentioning this flaw...no answers yet..i can see the TS files (TS is the name given to the folder that contain DVD files, which in actual fact are VOB files, browse a DVD and see for yourself) but i cant play them, if i mount an image file to a virtual DVD drive to show the TS files, when i go to play them it just hangs on buffering, if i do it directly from the hdd i just get a black screen.

As for mounting a drive, if you follow Liams explanation, he goes on to tell you to boot the box for the settings to show.....if you do this then go into mount settings they have dissapeared, i have not been able to get a folder to mount.

THOUGHT: The TS files i am attempting to play have been compressed to fit onto dvdr, would there be an issue playing these files as opposed to raw TS files from a dvd, in which case you would need to use dvd decryptor to rip it to hard drive which would defeat the object.

sorry to dig up an old post but was trying to find stuff about streaming from pc to db.

are there any guides/lists that give a break down of supported codec's etc for the 500c?

@ apintofmilk.

if you are still connected the same way, you need to put the two connections in seperate networks.

your server is your pc's default gateway so any ip address starting with the 192.168.1.x (and having a 255.255.255.0 mask) will route here and not reach your db.

if you change the connection for the db to be in the 192.168.2.x network (or segment the 192.168.1.x network using a different mask like 255.255.255.252) you will have two seperately routed networks that will both work at the same time.

The file 'should' be seen under C BUT you may need to use the 'blue' button which removes the filter, so far I have had best results with .mpg also worth noting is that .avi (DivX eg mp4 format will NOT play) you may get the sound but you wont get the picture.

I have managed to get a limited set of avi/mp4/xvid with sound and picture.

The missing setting from vlc is is the following:

# Video frame-rate (float)
sout-transcode-fps=25.000000

Use G-Spot to check most of your avi files, if you have a frame rate of 23.97 then use 25.000 if 29.97 then use 30.000

The config files is normally stored on:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\vlc

From what I have read ffmpeg transcodes the formats down to mpeg1 or 2 for the dreambox, and reads the frame number, but does not know what to do with anything other than 25 or 30 fps.

Now the hard part...

Bloody lipsync...

I'm still working on this at the moment. I can get it to sync, but any stutter in the movie, or appearance of the [buffering] window causes it to go out. You can brinbg the lipsync in by jumping back or forward a couple of seconds. but its a pain in the arse...

Hope that helps...

JJ
