Hey people, i am looking to buy a cable box that i only want to watch the FTA channels on. Which boxes would you recommend?

My main priority is cheap and i dont really care about pausing/recording/HD etc..

Thanks

Cheapest box will be a StarView or EuroVox at about £45

BTW : It is still illegal to use 3rd party equipment to watch cable television in the UK, FTA or not.

Thanks for the info. Can you let me know on here or pm of the best places of buying one of these?

Also, i should have said that i do have a tv connection paid (for just the basic channels) but the box and epg are so slow it does my head in.

Many thanks once again

Just look on eBay or google.

Which model box do you have? If your subscription box is slow because it is an older model, complain to VM. My experience is they will next day ship you a newer box, especially if you say you are thinking of switching to $ky. If you don't have to, best not to spend anything right??

It is still against the terms and conditions of your VM contract to use 3rd party equipment. I don't care and neither does anyone on this forum but you should know what it is you are doing. After all ignorance is no defence ;)

buy a freeview box then waste of money if you only want fta

If you shop around, you can get a DM500 for around the same price!
Dvb seller does them for £39

If it is only FTA channels you want, by a cheap freeview box!

In my opinion though, i would fork out a little extra, and get a dreambox... that way you get more channels, streaming, recording functionality etc

Gotta be poor quality / a scam at that price?

Quiet a few people, even from this forum buy their boxes from this guy... a quick search; here and here are just two of quiet a few posts i found!

Many distributors are selling their DM500 for peanuts because of less demand for it, as it has been replaced by the DM600 pvr. what would you rather do? have old products sitting on your shelf, or sell them for the wholesale price?

With regards to the quality, these will be the same as any other Dm500 clone. Dm500's have not been manufactured by DM for some years now, so any first hand DM500 will be a clone! i personally have 2 Dm500 clones in my house, 1 of which is way over 2 years old, and have had no problems with it.

Im not saying one should buy one from him, as that choice is entirely yours, but price wise and from feedback around the forum, he seems reliable! and if you can get dm500 for under £40 when a StarView or EuroVox costs around £45, i know what i would do ;)
