Hi,

I'm having some trouble with intermittent freezing of channels, and channels not clearing. I have been trying to find info out whether my signal is too strong or too weak. My SNR is about 94-97%, AGC 40-45 and BER is 0, or very close to 0.

Could anyone please point me in the direction of a good explanation of these parameters, and recommended levels for each?

Do I need a booster or attenuator, or neither?

Apologies if this question has been answered previously - I did try to search, but I think 3 letter search terms do not work.

your readings look good to me anything around 96% for signal is what your looking for

most of my snr is 94-95% AGC ranges from 40's to 51% ber is 0 /me pats yellow booster.

The most important value is BER (BitErrorRate).
Its not possible to get something better than zero errors.
It looks like there is a problem with an emu.

OK - problem sorted.

I reflashed the image and has similar issues, with blocky channels etc. I finally figured out that it was a problem with the cconnector on the cable connected to the dreambox. I've got the C tuner, with standard crappy coax connectors, not the F-type. I've got F-type everywhere else, but the last connection was coax. A little tweaking has sorted it out.

In the meantime, I bought a booster today to try out. (will be returned tomorrow!) In any case, i got surprising results.

The SLX-1 booster from argos, mentioned on many posts here actually dropped the SNR to 80%, even with maximum gain, and the BER rose also!

Looks like a simple case of a bad connector caused all my grief!
