Found this on the cableforum website,
someone posted thiis info

my brother works for a uk cable network and told me in confidence about the new plans for illegal cable boxes.....a new system which operates a pin only view will be put in place starting from march all subscribers will be sent new cards on feb. all paying channels will operate on demand with only the free to air left on. the new cards will require pin start up.this leaves all boxes like starview, eurovox, dreambox, etc useless unless someone can bypass the network pin and create on demand functions for all boxes.....NO CHANCE !
Got me abit worriied so can someone tell if this is true or not?

Bullshit.

Same ol' scare mongering we heard for years.

have to aggree with the guys post below it lol

And of course he was told this in confidence by the a friend of the Cleaners cat of the cleaner who cleans the Offices at Hook.

Sorry but if and i mean IF that was true it would be one of the closest secrets that VM would have until the day before it is to happen. Sorry but these Rumours prop up from time to time. I NEVER believe them until they happen.

Finally if they do introduce pins on all channels then off to sky i go. There is no way in hell i would be imputing a pin every time i want to watch Virgin 1.

I have some friends in Networks for VM will ask them if they have heard anything, One of them works in the headend so if anyone knows he will ?.Problem is even if they say its true i would not be daft enough to post it on here for all the scum bags to read who steal cable

I am not sure if it is true or not but considering most of the 'cough' boxs bypass more sophistictaed security than a simple pin I am not going to worry about it.

yeah but it was a guy on another forums brother who said it in confidence so it must be true

lol yeah if this happens i will personally stump up the money and get myself one of those motorised sky setups.........always kinda fancied all that porn :)

i joined the cable scene about a year or so ago

and this was being said then

tbh if its controlled by a computer it can be hacked it time

and for vm to do that would cost them dearly,

the internet though cable is suffering enough, if they were to make all pay channels auth via on demand the Internet speeds would suffer as would changing of channels as well as a mass rollout of new boxes..

its so impractical i laughed..

the only way they could kill illegal stbs if it they had enough man power to check each house hold and maunally aut each box at time of connection

as well as at time of disconnection..

the only way they will stop us atm is nagra3

or at a stretch (they dont have the cash) a live isolated encription system like sky has

I am just getting myself one of those motorised setups and found that it costs the same as buying a Dm600-C for £200. So basically you are better getting one of those setups.

once this is up and running can u run as many boxes as u like with the one disc , and do u get the same channels we have now

Checkout tommohawk thread in the satellite section. I am still anoob and waiting for my bits to arrive later this week. The LNB determine how many boxes you can run of one dish. You cannot get the same channels as you can on cable as VM don't broadcast on satellite and you can't get S*y channels as that is not hacked but you can get similar content as both or from what I have read in the satelite section it seems more current than cable. Apologies for going off topic.

lol, everyones going onto the motor dish set up, i did make a post in the sat section that it was going to get busy in the new year, looks like it going to come true,

as for the cable going down, my mates dog is a seeing dog, you know like those people who can see military bases in russia and the like from a bunker in the usa, any way his dog saw the head of virgin in talks with encryption people and my mate says his dog sent the message telepathically to him but he couldnt understand as it was sent in morse code in his head, but once he got on the web and decrypted the message his dog sent telepathically to him in morse code it said that this is indeed going to happen in march and theres nothing anyone can do, he did add that it also said at the end of the message that it didnt like chum dog food but he thinks this wasnt anything to do with the virgin message but just his dog complaining.

iv read thommohawk's thread was really interested as it covered basically everything i wanted to know too. Think il hold off and see how you guys get on before rushing out to install a sat dish.

I guess like everything, to a noob it seems alot of work compared to virgin cable.

off topic again but ive to say this, its not hard, the box almost sets itself up, patch it with a usb stick its easy, as for the dish set up ive to do that i a day or so but from the tuts ive read im sure i'll have no probs getting that up and going.

im not even fully set up yet but i have the box hooked up to my old sky dish so i have some channels, if you go hd route like me std pic is upscaled so its looks great via hdmi, i only have one hd channel at the min bbc hd but thats outstanding looking, id say its well worth doing and i,ll be bigging it up more once im watching 3 pm kickoffs lol. recommended.

@smirnoff, no mate you dont get what you get on virgin, but im planning on switching between my cable and sat set up.

well over here on the otherside of the water upc are implementing nagra 2 rom110 revA05 so i dont see virgin going to nagra 3,will be interesting to see how the hack for this revA05 goes

I was a huge fan of the Eurvox box until I came across the Dm600 and than I couldn't say enough abot the dreambox. Unlike thommohawk I have decided to play it safe and go for the dreamxob DM500S from ******* for £62 and a sat dish from wizards for £125. If the satelite scene turns out to be really good than I thought I could always go for a better box or a bigger dish but until than I am sticking with the tried and tested.

i though a lot of the main sat providers were going to nagra 3?

The end may well be in sight for certain receivers in Ireland if UPC continue at the hectic pace they are rolling out Nagra 2.

yeah but they will have to keep nagra1 and nagra 2 for a while the new cards are only being use in the pvr boxes so they will then have to issue everyone new cards and that will take a while

as its gone off topic a little bit.....

i cant see them implamenting a pin system, i think the linux boxes would be straight round that system..... it could hardly be hard to work out what the pin system was or even override it..... it would be too costly for vm....

its been on the cards for ages that they are gonna stop all this cough box business...... but all they need to do..... is kill people at the boxes.......and then make sure they dont get a hookey engineer to re connect them for £25......

vm should give a better pricing. they are far more expensive than many other services out there..........

the only thing i can see vm doing is just either weakening the signal....... so peoples boxes keep freezing....... (as they require more signal) or doing more key rolls........ or changing to nagra 2 or 3...... but once again im sure the linux boxes would b the best for these..... as im sure you could get away with card sharing????
