Help with flashing dreambox Please!!

Hi all, recently my lappy packed in and i had to get a new one i have just discovered that between my comp and 3 lappy's in the house that none of these have a com1 port. Is there any other way for me to reflash my box or any other alternative.

they dont have any com port or dont have a com1 port?you could always flash via a cross over cable providing you can connect with the box if the box has gone belly up then you will have to use dreamup with a null modem , you could always try a usb to serial port lead

No comm port whatsoever aand i aint got a clue past that

you cand get serial port for your pc fairly cheap on ebay i got a card with 2 ports and it just slots into the mother board no problem either that or you could try a usb to serial port from maplins

As suggested ethernet port and cross over cable and flash wizard pro

You can only use dreamup with a null cable and com port.

Cheers for that. So am i right in saying i am looking to get a serial port card to put into laptop and this will be my answer to the problem

well you still can used a cross over providing the box hasnt gone belly up and you know the ip of the box

Your only gonna need this should you need to use dreamup or flash an image with a null.
Theres plenty of images/backups that will flash using an ethernet cable and fwp,personally i'd not bother until the need ever arises.
Only ever used dreamup and null once in 3yrs when lappy battery died,during a flash.

you can get a usb to com port adapter for £9.99 I think from Maplin.. it comes with a driver.. simply connect it to your laptop or desktops usb port and use dreamup.. 8 minutes later you will be smiling..

I bought a USB to COM port adaptor and its works a treat.

UPDATE most places all have stock of the usb to serial cable but none have the pcmcia to serial card. Heres my next problem neither the card or the usb cable will run on Vista just on xp and older versions. Thats me stumped again any more help much appreciated

it should run on 32 bit vista there is a setting that you have to select and chose the xp version it should be ok

Got one of these usb to serial today installed drivers on my laptop(vista) and computer(xp). And on both every time i use dreamup when i click on connect i get a pop up message saying Unable to open com-port, aborting. Where am i going wrong

Ignore that last post im up and running and on the vista.
