Heya there,

The last week or so I got hold of a cloned DM500c (I presume it's cloned - it cost £75!) and hooked it up in great anticipation to my cable feed to replace my ageing Sagem dbox.

The dbox never has a signal issue, never misses a channel. It's brilliant. Or was before I realised how slow it was compared to a genuine dreambox I've seen in action.

Sadly, on hooking the cloned DM500c I shelled out for up to my feed I discover that it misses a whole host of channels whilst scanning - using various images - usually the Red Hot series of channels, Nickelodeon, and a whole load of others.

So, following the excellent advice on this board I grabbed a yellow brick booster thinking that might sort the issue.

Sadly not. the booster got rid of the BER but still I was missing the same channels as before.

So then I try various attenuators on the feed and again, channels missing, high BER etc etc.

This is all, by the way, with a direct and clean feed - no splitters etc in place. I've tried various images as I said, various cams, a total clean wipe of the DM500 and reflashing - all several times and all with no joy.

So, now I'm debating whether to splash out on a Dm600c at £199? Or grab hold of a second hand d-box, via e-bay, for about £160.

I'm scared that with the DM600c I'll have the same signal issues?

Any advice greatly appreciated on any of this...

Cheers for now to you all!

There is an unresolved bug which is keeping the Dreambox from picking up certain channels, particularly the "porn" channels you mention and a few others. No amount of signal boosting will sort this out, and I believe the DM600 suffers from the same problem. It's presumably a software problem, since the missing channels are flagged differently on the network, and this could be why they're being discarded.

You can convert a Dbox2 services file from your area to Dreambox format, and then the channels will work just fine.

I'll give that a try now mate thank you. It's still a bit annoying though, especially when the ageing DBox gets everything first time :)

I hope recording isn't a priority for you, because that's another area where the DM500 falls way short of the Dbox2. ;)

Heya, that worked with the Neutrino image on the dreambox cheers. Just need to find a way to get my services converted so they'll work on the DWorld images now - and of course then where to upload them to :)

I don't use my DBox or Dremabox now, to record so that's never an issue.

I basically love to tinker - and of course, love watching TV! The perfect combination! :D

I'm keeping my eyes on the iTGate Black Pearl 220 as it sounds like a good bit of kit. Or at least it will be once the image for it matures a little :)

If you use one of mrdudes modded images you can pick up the prawn channels with the DM600. mrdudes has added these channels manually to the services and bouquets file though I have to say you are not missing much.

I'm not overly fussed about those channels anyway if truth be told :D

Which other channels are affected by this bug?

And is it specific to the Dreamboxes, or is the Itgate blighted too?

But it looks like he had the issue on neutrino also ?

Yeah, exactly the same thing happens with the Neutrino images I've tried.

am using neutrino 9b will also not pick up sk y b o x Off ice, sports one ! anyone know if this will be sorted out or will be like this always ???

Thanks

I can't remember if Sports 1 is usually one of the missing channels, but Box Office definitely is. I don't know if anyone is actually working on this issue. I would say there's a high probability that it's a software problem and not a hardware one. The channels work fine when added manually, and they only seem to differ from other channels by virtue of being flagged as a different kind of service, so they seem to be discarded just like data channels are. It does seem odd that this problem would affect every single image out there, even Neutrino ones.

Well thats interesting - haven't heard of this before.

I discovered it when I got a DVB card recently, where you have access to more detailed info for each channel. After I had done a scan, the phantom channels in question were all flagged as data/service, as opposed to radio or TV channels, and they had their own provider ID as well, so it would seem that's the most likely explanation why they're being filtered out on Dreambox.

Yup, I've been taking a look and that's exactly it. Two of the "Red Hot" channels are marked as data/service channels.

I've just started a new thread on this. Perhaps some of the image modders could share their thoughts on the issue.

perhaps we could get enigma(maybe neutrino too) to scan for the data channels then swap the flags around so it thinks there tv cahnnels like the rest of them
um lets look! :) :)

just to let users in Ireland know i dont think this affects them as i have a clone and get every channel fine, red hot ,spice etc porn channels arent available in Ireland anyway.:)

at the moment getting a dreambox to replace a dbox has been a downgrade, cause of no fast scanning and also not picking up them channeks :(

Maybe one day : shocked2
