problem with dreambox? is it faulty?

hi everyone, my mate ordered a dm500c for his home and brought it up to me to flash an image on it, so i flashed good old diorj 0.6 onto it and he called me up a while later and said that lots of channels were missing, so i told him to come back to my house and id try to sort it. the first thing that came to my mind was that he had a bad signal. so he arrived and i unplugged my dreambox(which is running a perfect diorj image) and plugged his in. lots of the channels i tried said "service could not be found", so i checked the snr(97%) and agc(40) and everything was fine, then i used serial cable and dreamup and erased flash and put original software back on, so after this i reflashed diorj onto it(i have flashed this backup onto several family members boxes with no problems) and still the same.... "servcie could not be found" its weird because i get most of the sky channels but most of the free channels are not there, so anyway i plugged my own box back in and it worked perfect, along with another dreambox in the house, so then i tried gemini 3.30 which also works flawlessly on my box, and the same thing when i tried it on his box........"service could not be found" tried switching cams on gemini also but still no joy

do you think my mate has received a faulty box?

its the first time i have come accross this type of problem

i get this problem when using the new tuner driver, try dw1.6 and change driver to old one see if that helps.

ok i have flashed DW1.6 onto it and all channels are fine with the new tuner active.

but then i tried diorj and gemini again and there are loads of channels are missing.

why is this the only box that doesnt like my backedup diorj and gemini images? all other friends and familys boxes give all channels with these back ups.

any ideas?

try a fresh install of gemini 3.3 and add your files yoursefl i know u know how to lol

it may be something on your backup thats causing it.

ok danny will give it a try mate, but when i use this backed up image on any other box its fine, thats what confusing me

If this is a new dream box then the problem could be your signal strength for this box as you have an snr of 97. I found that above 95 on some channels that they would not clear. I found ideal snr is 89-94 depending what channel you on.

What is the snr on the channels that wont clear/service not found? Also the ber as you can get away with high ber only with a low snr 89-90.

Then what is the same on your working box?

This may indicate a tuner fault or just the same problem that many peeps have had including myself.

exact same problem with mine.......solved with a booster..the cheap one from argos,


had good snr etc etc...etc....before i put it on but still had no free to air and some premium.... exactly the same as your mates prob..........its now solid as a rock with ALL channels



you might have yours solved now but it may be handy for others...

what particular booster did you get mate, im looking at the argos catalog now and there are so many, i havnt got a clue which one to choose

the cheapest one they have, its a mikomi ca -01 1 way signal booster cost me about 5 or 6 quid if i remember right i bought it ages ago but never needed it for the dbox.

not sure if they do it now as theres a new catalogue out but any should work.



oh just remembered aswell might not affect owt but i did remove a forward path attenua from the line aswell which was there for my dbox...so try that aswell if you have any attached..iirc though mine still didnt pick all the channels up until i boosted it.


also it mat be image related but cant confirm whether id need the booster with a diff image as this is the first one ive ever put on it, its just the dw.img ive put on and it needed the booster to get the channels on,i,ll report back if you get no joy when i put another image on and see if i still need the booster, strange thing is in the settings everything signal wise looks strong much the same as your mates.
