Evening Forum,

I've got a question and am hoping the forum can help me please.

So I have a Win7 64bit laptop and a DM600.

For those who may have forgotten. The DM600 is an older Enigma1 (E1) receiver with a RS232 connection and requires a null modem cable (RS232) connection to either a laptop or desktop PC to flash the box with an image.
Yes the DM600 is very similar to the DM500 SD

My questions are:

Will Dreamup work with Windows 10 ?
Will Dreamup work with Windows 7 (64 bit) ?

Can anybody suggest a good PCMCIA or USB RS232 (null modem) adapter card or cable which they know is compatible with the Dreambox receivers and Dreamup ?

Thanks forum

Dreamup works on Win 7 64bit

Forget the make of my PCMCIA to RS232 ill see if i can dig it out to see the make of it.

Thanks. I would appreciate it. I'm still running XP on my desktop PC just so I can use the RS232 port on the back of the tower when I need to flash my DM600 with Dreamup.

So, if I can find a PCMCIA card with RS232 connection that works without problems with Dreamup. I can then use this on my Windows 7 laptop to flash my DM600 in the future.

I can then finally install Windows 7 on my desktop PC and say goodbye to Windows XP

I've heard about problems with Windows 10 and Dreamup previously.
This is why I wanted to do my research before upgrading my OS from Win XP to anything higher.

If Dreamup works without any probs with Win 7 then that's as far as I'll go for now.

Something like this should work ok and is a cheap option

Code:

I have used dreamup on either win 8 or 8.1 (can't remember now) with no issues.

I have an old dreambox and one of those adaptors here.

will attempt to flash it, see if it woks..

Thanks Forum members & Mods

If anybody has any success with Win 10 and Dreamup when flashing an old DM500 or 600 please let me know. Or any DM. Thanks

i have spent the last hour trying just that lol.
no sucess as yet.

Now i wish i had tested the usb converter when i had a working setup.

I will keep at it and post any results if i get lucky...

Hi forum,

Yes. I had previously read that Win 10 and Dreamup are not compatible. I hoped it wasn't true. Looks like it is true.

I've also read that the USB to RS232 cables wont work with Dreambox and laptops.
I've read that you can only flash Dreambox from laptops with PCMCIA RS232 cards

Forgive my ignorance here, i dont switch operating systems till its been out a couple of years :proud: But is there not a compatibility mode in Win10 ?

That's also a good point. I pretty much felt the same way with Win XP.
I got so used to it over the years, especially its ease of use with Dreamup.
However when Win Vista, 7, 8, 10 all came on the market I thought it best to wait until things became calm again.
I'm guessing Win 10 is where we are for now, so I'm guessing that things are now stable with OS.

Looks like I will not switch to Win 10 for now, instead I will upgrade the XP OS to Win 7 on the desktop.

Still need to find a PCMCIA card that works with Win 7 and Dreamup

there are ways to flash the dm500/600 over network without using dreamup

I'm sure its in here somewhere, been a while since I did it m8. i'm sure someone else can point you in the right direction.

Any useful links ?

You'll see your IP at the top of the page make a note of this and enter this IP into Flashwizard.

Also untick the DHCP box so your Dreambox IP will never change and remain static.

13. Exit Flashwizard and pull the power from you dreambox and wait for 30 seconds before reapplying power.

14. Time to get sat in front of the TV! As your box boots you’ll see the Boot Logo Screen come up maybe a couple of times.

15. At the Pal Screen Select Pal or the system your TV uses and then press the green button on your remote to save.

16. Select your language and press the ok button.

17. Select your time zone and press the green button to save.

18. You’ll now see the Diseqc Setup menu and have 3 options to choose from

No Diseqc for a single LNB Setup.

Simple For a the setup of 2 Lnb’s

Complex for Diseqc 1.2 or Usuals/Goto X

19. If you want to use usuals keeps the goto x box ticked and enter your Longitude and latitude and press the green button to save.

20. Now select Auto Transponder Scan. This will scan all available transponders till a valid one is found. When found press green to scan. When the scan is complete press ok.At this point you can now scan another satellite with a press of the green button or red not to. Later on in this tutorial ill be explaining how to transfer channel setting so you don’t really need to.

21. Click exit and select a channel free to air to view. Now press the menu button-option5-reboot now, this will save your settings.

That’s the flash and initial setup complete.

Then there is the telnet method

1.Rename the image file to backup.img
2. FTP the image file to the /tmp folder on the dreambox DM500S.
3. Telnet to your box and paste the following command: -

cd /tmp && eraseall /dev/mtd/3 && cp backup.img /dev/mtd/3 && reboot

After the telnet command give the receivers a few mins to reboot.

There is another method involving watching the front light blink out the IP of the box but i forget the whole procedure its a long time since my e1 days.

Thank you to all of you that helped me out on this thread. Means a lot to me.
Also means that I can upgrade to Win 10 and still flash my DM600 (until the bloody thing dies !!) without needing to worry about COM ports, Dreamup, RS232 connections and Null modem cables.

Will be nice to finally join everybody else in 2016

I'm going to use the Flash Wizard Pro method as I never understood how to telnet. I just about managed to grasp DCC (after ages)

Thanks again forum

Thanks Ferret,

I've just realised where the tutorial for Flash Wizard Pro came from. Thanks.

Do any Admin/ Mods know if we hold the Flash Wizard Pro 7.2 version here ?
