information needed for newbie

hi guys i was in my mates house today and he got a dreambox dm500v8 installed by some guy for £250 then £50 a year to receive basically the full package that sky offers........

im looking for some info on this as im interested in it for myself and a few family members...

is it legal?
how does it work?

ive seen these boxs on fleebay for £60 and want to install this for myself for hopefully a lot less than £250

no it is not legal. It takes data over the net to decode encryption. The £50 a year is for server access which will probably involve a lot of picture freezing/glitching for that amount of subscription but by then he will be long gone with his £300. The box itself is worth £50.

In short buy the box for £50 and then set it up as a server yourself and get a few mates to connect to you and share the cost. This way it will be safer and will at least be watchable.
