newbies technical guide for C/S

the box acts as the server mate with the card in, doesnt need anything else but an internet connection once setup, not sure if sky know the cards active or not, but with cccam you can update entitlements by accepting emms from people on your network, i update my card this way and it works fine, just allow 1 or 2 people to send you emms and it normally updates fine within a few day, maybe every 6 to 7 weeks.

If I had the server, then couldn't my box just send emm responses back without me having to configure for others?

Also, wouldn't it seem shifty if I just called up as a new customer and asked for everything?

yes mate you can use your own box to send emms, i use my dm 800 and my 2 500's to send to mine, but the more people that are sending the emms the better chance of it updating quickly, what i would do mate is phone for the basic channels and get it fitted, then set your server up, then when your happy its working ok, upgrade your channels to the full package or whatever you want!

Thanks mate. If you don't mind me asking, what's the best, reliable and affordable SD and HD boxes out there right now in your opinion?

well as my server i use a 500c mate, never faultered yet, as for viewing boxes iv got an 800 hd pro in my living room, which i find great, cant fault that either, for sub £200 you cant beat them in my eyes, although if you have the money i would go for a vu+ duo, but they are nearly twice the price of a 800, as for my other boxes i have 2 500's in bedrooms which i also find great. all iv had is dreamboxes mate even from the days of cable as there the best supported boxes. its really a case of what you can afford and what you need out of them i guess!

every one who are sending the emm to you could see your card serial number aswell.....so better use own box to send emms.... i deffo would :)

yes it certainly is better, i only allow from my own boxes and also family members boxes, just to be on the safe side!

Good thing it's only between family members. Am considering just leaving the headache to a friend of a relative, but he said that if I want a HD box, then there's a delay when changing channels. That lead me to think that's because he probably has lots of people doing CS off his box.

Am I right in assuming that the more people on the CS, the slower the channel changing would be?

depends on what sort of server m8....box image/firmware/build can be the main pisser when it comes to zapping

any advantages in running oscam and mgcamd over newcs and mgcamd

sorry for thread hi-jack but just wanna ask one more question.

Assuming the server is okay and channels change fairly quickly on a standard box, is it normal for there to be a delay of 1 or 2 seconds when changing channels on a hd box?

personally i have a dm800 clone b/l 72 , nab.v 12 ......and zapping is instant...

really depends on box build/image etc......with the h/d boxes heat can cause little issues too

Pardon the silly question, but I assume zapping is quick channel lock or quick channel changing, right?

If I got a single box from the friend of a friend, would I be able to take his c line/f line and place it into another box in the same LAN and have access to the CS? That way I don't have to be reliant on his Choice of box (*view) or image.

Thats a bit too cryptic m8 lol

lines can only be used in one box at a time :)

For real? Not too clued up on lines etc, but I thought that a line was just an IP address and perhaps a port number so in theory one would be able to use more than one box from the same IP location?

A cline which is a dns addy, portnumber, user and password allows you to connect to a server,if several boxs use the same details to connect it will disrupt the server causing it to become unstable or at worse crash ;)

excellent post, made things a lot clearer for me, as im going to be setting up a server for a friend soon. couple of questions, just to make sure im getting this.

the server will be setup in his house using his card, and i will be sharing it from my house. so the static ips i would setup would be,

his box 192.168.1.101
my box 192.168.1.102 <- this would now become a static ip on my network, and i would have to set all my other devices like ps3, pc, laptop etc around this ip to avoid ip conflicts on my network.

hope that makes sense

second question, would these instructions change much if i wasnt using the image that is mentioned in the op, or would it be pretty much the same.

Doesnt matter what ip you give your box or his once its in the network range of your routers, just make sure its not conflicting with any other ip's,

as regards sharing he would need to setup a dns account as this will be the address your box will connect to,he would then need to forward a port which will be linked to his BOX ip address,

Hope that clears things up a bit m8 :)
