My new DM800s arrived this morning and I just wondering what image you guys would recommend for it?

I've got quite used to the Digital Worldz DM500c image and the missus quite likes it, anything similar to this?

I'm about to get a cline from a cs forum too, so ideally the image that best supports such practices would be useful too.

all down to personal preference.

I used to use Nabilosat Black Hole image for over a year but the've not had an update for over 6 months so I've moved to the Dream Elite image were I understand that thats a breakoff group off guys from Nabilosat. The latest Dream Elite image has a driver/pluging to connect a hauppauge usb dvb (freeview) to it.

Been running Dream Elite for 3 weeks now without any issues.

Geminii & Pli are also quite popular but I've not tested them

Another vote for the Dream Elite image,it's been rock solid

one other thing, the box comes with a DVI output - has anyone managed to find a DVI to HDMI converter that has audio supported (you plug the audio from the mono cables into the hdmi converter and it sends the audio down the hdmi sort of thing)?

I've got my TV mounted and tv wires tracking through the walls behind the plaster and although i've got a good selection (couple of hdmi, component, scart) I don't have audio cables in there and it will be difficult to get them in now... and I don't wanna have to use the surround sound system when the kids are watching Nickelodeon.

It should have come with the DVI to HDMI cable

is it an original or clone

i think i know what you mean m8, i use my scart for the audio and the dvi to hd cable to my tv. i use my audio to got to my surround dound dvd player. if you telly needs sound the dvi thingamy bob will carry sound any way.

Hi m8,
DVI interface does NOT carry audio. It is Digital Visual Interface - video only.

this is correct however dream have included audio to avoid the hdmi licensing.. and the dvi to hdmi cable that comes with it does carry the audio.

Wow! That is great! I did not know that.

In fact, I don't have the box yet, so never had the chance to try it.

Re. DVI to HDMI cable, I also have my cables running thru the wall, so it's gonna be a little tricky plus the supplied cable to is too short, so what I've done it ordered a HDMI coupler (HDMI Coupler Joiner Female to Female - Join 2 cables - PSG02578 - kenable for HDMI Optical TOS Network Ethernet RJ45 Scart Audio Phono Jack USB Firewire 800 ADSL Cable Leads) to connect the existing HDMI coming out of the telly with the HMDI end of the supplied DVi to HDMI cable, hope this works... I'll post the results.

i can absolutely gaurantee with my mortgage that this output carries audio to the telly.!! i also use my surround sound from the scart output. if its late at night or early in the morning i use the telly audio.

Thanks Stefblak,

Do you know if there's something special about the supplied cable the allows it to carry the audio, or is the interface on the box designed to allow audio, i.e. if I were to buy a longer DVI to HDMI cable, will the audio still work?

Hi stefblack,

I recently get to know that DM800 carries also audio over the DVI, which in this case makes it "non-standard" DVI interface.

Thanks for the garantee, though...

i dont know how it works, it just does. sorry about not knowing about getting a longer one. maybe ebay or maplins would sell a longer one. or even one of the sat stores that have been mentioned here.

if u need to extend, use the supplied cable and get a hdmi coupler with ur required length hdmi cable to get the right length.

Yes that worked for me, bought a £3 coupler that did the trick, initially couldn't get sound, but a quick play with the options under AV settings did the trick.

hi everyone,

I have been following discussions on this forum for some time and have to admit the amount of information to absorb for a newbie like myself can be daunting.

Having just acquired a DM800HD (original, not a clone), i now have more questions than ever, the most important one being: should i change the original image that came with my DM800 (in this case Enigma II)?

This question was prompted by two problems i encountered while configuring the unit for the first time:
1. its inability to read a card i have been using on my older receiver (i understand that only dreamcrypt is supported by the official image.)
2. not being able to drive my motorized antenna (using a linear actuator)

Any suggestions on where to start would be greatly appreciated.
