Well, all good things must come to an end! After having an amazing motorised sat setup for the last 3 years, and going HD just 8 months ago, I am now moving to a new build where no sats are allowed to be mounted and from what i saw, there is no convenient way to place a dish anywhere else.

From what i did see though, there is NTL (now virgin?) already installed at the property! I am already trawling through the many posts in the cable section to become acquainted, but could someone who has recently made the change from cable to sat possibly tell me I'm letting myself in for?

Can cable still be cracked? Do you CS or use keys? If the cables are already put down, can i hook up a receiver or do i have to 'activate' the lines?

The old days of free tv are numbered buddy, lots of area's are going over N3.
I have been told that c/s on cable is being done as we speak but I've not seen it as of yet, apparently Ireland are doing it as they went over to n3 a year ago.

As for what boxes are capable of c/s on cable I don't know I'm afraid.

Hope this helps.

There are those square dishes that you can take a photo of your wall and stick it to the dish .....you might get away it .

Those chameleon dishes are very funky! Still think the landlord would notice though when he comes to collect the rent :) I did just want to stick the sat on a pole in the back garden, but it's surrounded by woodland...

if you're buying the property and its not a conservation area, should be ok.

Unfortunately i'm renting... if it was my own, i wouldn't even have to think twice!

Dont tempt me with ideas like that... im just the kind of fool that would go ahead and do such a thing! :proud:

so did a mate of mine, reneted a house and thought he couldn't until he asked the landlord, said it was ok.

True, as the saying goes.... you don't ask, you don't get!

Perhaps he'll agree if we could somehow install it up on the roof, out of sight! No chimneys though... would an install like that be possible, as i've never come across one?

will be moving to the fleet area! I believe it falls under the Farnborough constituency. I may not be able to get sat anymore, but on the plus side i just found out i can get a 50mb fibre optic connection! Who needs tv when you got that :proud:
