Still weighing up wether to go for high def or not but where is the best place to purchase online pref within the UK and does a speedy delivery

cheers

If you need one NOW then Alex at Blochairn will be able to sort you out tomorrow.

£50 for the Dreambox 500 Clone
£175 for the Dreambox 800 Clone

I honestly cannot recommend a DM800 clone just now due to my recent misfortune with then, but many other people are happy with them.

your not the first to recomend him, was moving towards the dm800 but again not the first to mention potential issues with the tuner so might just play safe with the 500s is the 600s a significant step up from what ive seen it still seems scart only?

600 is basically just a 500 with PVR functionality internal HDD. If you ain't bothered about recording stuff stick with a 500.

If I were you, I'd opt for the wee DM500, then once you are confident sell it and upgrade to something like a VU+ Duo. Don't worry, you'll easily get the £50 back for your DM500, probably more!

It's uses a less complcated OS and is probably more user friendly for newbies :)

Cant really go wrong with a 500s clone at 50 quid, well established, well supported, stable, reliable, cheap and cheerfull.

It is howerver a fairly old model, still OK if you just want to wacth TV and are not bothered about PVR, and 7 day EPG's etc..

A DM600 might be a better option for the PVR feature, extra RAM, swappable tuners, analog modem etc..dont know what UK prices are like cheapest China price i've seen is 81 quid. DM600 is still scart only SD.

Im really tempted to buy a DM800 clone, but the almost gauranteed tuner and heat issues are holding me back...

I would probably recommend a DM500 or 600, leave the HD alone for know and wait and see how it pans out...maybe the 800 clone issues will get sorted, or maybe we'll see more HD devices from other manufacturers enter the market.

cheers guys picking up a 500s tomorrow :)

thanks for the helpful replies

no problem ill bring the holy water and cleanse you all of your sins

Do you really want someone else to flash it for you?

You'd be doing yourself a favour by setting it up yourself, as things can and do go wrong, where will that leave you if John has done all the setup.

Something to think about. :)

Understand what you mean mate, same happend with my dbox first time there was a key change i didnt know how to fix it(until i found this forum! and read up on it) , but wouldnt mind it initially getting done and when its up and running can start looking at how it works how to connect to it etc.. see if it can be flashed via ethernet etc.. but wouldnt mind just starting with it knowing its good to go...

True.

I suppose what you could do is get John to sort it out, then make a backup of the image.

Then when you fook it up (and you will at some point, we all have, lol) you'll be able to load the backup and evrytthing will be hunky dory again. :)

Are you going to be running your own Sky card or a share mate?
