When is a HD telly box NOT a HD telly box?

When it's mine. :(

When I got this box I could see most of the HD channel and even Nat Geo HD was fine with no glitches, but after an hour or so the glitches started creeping in and over the last few days the channels have went from glitching but watchable to completely GONE!

Every single HD channel on every satellite reports back as 'Tune Failed', signal status SNR 0 AGC 99 BER 0, normal SD channels are showing SNR 97 AGC 99 BEC 0 and are prefectly fine.

I've just installed a 20dB inline amp and my signals have dropped massively, the SD channels have went from SNR 97 % to around 43%

I've got a strong hunch that my problem is that the signal is too strong ratehr than too weak.

I'm using Nabilosat Black Hole 0.12 (Patched), how can I check my tuner drivers etc?

Mine went like that. 1st time was the motherboard, 2nd time is was the dish moved slightly.
Check your ALPS tuner is still seen in the setup menu.
Can you see BBC HD - this is DVB-S not S2.
Have you got another tuner to try.

Tuner is seen as ALPS BSBE2 (DVB-S2)

Most of the time I can see BBC HD, but not today.

Not got a replacement tuner, but seriously considering buying one.

I've refitted the tuner a few times to make sure it is nice and snug, I don't see any probs with it mate.

@ Fatbasket, how do you know it was the motherboard mate?

The only HD channel I can see without fail is the HD Test stream on 19 east for Eins Festival!

lol

Sounds like your tuner has packed up mate. Have you taken the AMP out of the cable and tried again?

I've removed the amp as it only made things much worse.

Withn the amp removed things are back to 'normal', i.e all SD channels are perfect, signals are on average 98% SNR 99% AGC and 0% BER.

HD channels are en entirely different matter, this is what I can currently see from 28.8.

I'll list these as I attempt to tune into them....

BBC HD - 100% SNR 99% AGC 0 BER - Absolutely Perfect.
Bio HD - Tune Failed.
Channel 4 HD - Tune Failed.
Crime HD - Tune Failed.
Discovery HD - Tune Failed.
Disney Cine HD - Tune Failed.
E4 HD - Tune Failed.
ESPN HD - Tune Failed.
Eurosport HD - Tune Failed.
FX HD - Tune Failed.
ITV HD - 98% SNR 99% AGC 0% BER - Absolutely Perfect.
Luxe HD- 73% SNR 93% AGC 0% BER - Weaker signal, but perfect picture, no glitching etc.
MGM HD - Tune Failed.
MTVN HD - Tune Failed.
Nat Geo HD - Tune Failed.
Nat Geo Wild - Tune Failed.
Rush HD - 78% SNR 96% AGC 0% BER - Weaker but good non glitching image.
Sci Fi HD - Tune Failed.
Sky Action HD - Tune Failed.
Sky Arts 1 HD - Tune Failed.
Sky Arts 2 HD - Tune Failed.
Sky Comedy HD - Tune Failed.
Sky Drama Romance HD - Tune Failed.
Sky Family HD - Tune Failed.
Sky Indie HD - Tune Failed.
Sky Modern Greats HD - Tune Failed.
Sky SciFi Horror HD - Tune Failed.
Sky Sports HD1 - Tune Failed.
Sky Sports HD2 - Tune Failed.
Sky Sports HD3 - Tune Failed.
Sky Sports HD3 - Tune Failed.
Sky Thriller HD - Tune Failed.
Sky 1 HD - Tune Failed.
Sky Premiere HD - Tune Failed.
Sky Real Lives HD - Tune Failed.
Sky Showcase HD - Tuner Failed.
History HD - Tune Failed.

Do you have an internal HDD?? If you do, take it out, let the box cool down for a fair bit, and try again (with the hdd not installed)

If the box is working fine again, or better than it was, then you know you have a tuner overheating issue. easily solved by installing a fan or two.

I had similar issues, not quiet on as many HD channels were affected (i only had discovery HD fail, and channel 4 was glitchy) but cooling solved my issue.

Actually, I do have a HDD installed, but I also have a USB fan sitting directly ontop of the tuner, so the tuner is always nice and cool to the touch.

I'll remove the HDD and see what happens.

I had one fan to begin with... it was situated ontop of the box 'sucking' hot air out. Best results though came when i added an additional 2 fans underneath blowing cold air in aswell.

I DIY'd my own stand, but you can get dreambox cooling stands with 2 fans (and LED's if you so choose) for around a fiver!

I think the majority of clone tuners do suffer from heating issues, so hopefully this will sort you out!

someone could make some serious cash by selling clones in the UK... i mean people would be willing to pay a few quid extra knowing that support/warranty will be provided from the uk.

I suppose you werent too happy about having to send it back to china, and fork out X amount of cash for it to get there!
