Buying a clone DM800 advise, alibaba etc

Hey guys been Reading the threads for a while now. I think I'm going to get a clone box for now.
Just have a few questions about buying from alibaba, this is where the seller sells, yaoxin etc.
How safe is alibaba to use? Iv heard there are alot of scammers on there.
What is the safest method of payment? Should I always insist on paypal if they accept it.
Just woundering what you guys do?

I'm not going to order though untill this tuner problem has been sorted as this will be my first box and the I haven't got a dish yet etc so if the tuner is bad I'd be looking at the dish etc :s

any advise would be great cheers

Clones have always had tuner problems, as have the original boxes...

yaoxin delivered my box, as promised in 3/4 days, for a good price, and despite some teething troubles, it has been a great buy. Several others on here have used them too. Go for a vendor that others have used already if you are worried about alibaba.

If you are looking at the DM800 as your first sat box, I wouldn't. Get yourself something cheap and simple like a secondhand TM off fleabay to start with, and play around with it until you get bored... Then when you are confident enough, flog the TM and get a DM.

However, if you are familiar with all the sat jargon, and understand the basic principles, plus you have a good understanding of Linux and networking, then it is worth a try. I don't want to put you off, but if you are a newbie to the hobby, it will pay off in the long run to start with something a little less complex, and upgrade later.

So you think something like Technomate TM 6800 HD USB PVR would be better to start with then move up to the dreamboxs

If you must have HD, then yes, that's a good choice.

A 6800 super would be even better, as it has ethernet and means you play around with CS, it is also possible with the standard 6800, but only if you hook it up to a pc.

If HD isn't a priority, then try the TM 5400, you should get one for about £50, and resell after for the same...

mrbleu, I agree, 6800 Super is a great receiver, but doesn't it only support Newcamd as CS emulation, and no CCcam?

AFAIK Cccam works with latest 701p firmware

I think I'm gonna go in at the steep end and get a dm800.
Personally it seems easier to me due to doing alot of research on them etc etc. And in the long run it's the box I want. This might come back to bite me in the ass but who knows.

Now what kind of payment on alibaba? Credit card bank transfer or paypal ?

Alibaba is just full of resellers mate.

You don't purchase through it.

O ye I know that you don't purchase through it. But what method is the safest for paying a company that you found on alibaba? Ie payments to china? There are alot of scammers on there and I want to make sure if u come across one I can't get my money back after

I would pay the extra and use linuxsat as they are UK based. Price £220. If you get a dodgy one from China and have to return it will cost you a lot of time and money.
