I followed many a tutorial and i still had problems. Eventually i got it working perfectly and even better than various tutorials describe, as i can change channel on the dbox remotley and the stream changes to that channel... Also this method is far simpler as you only need VLC! And the and this is how:

If you are using a router, and don't have a static IP, get yourself a domain setup.
Ports to forward on your router to your PC that will be running VLC -> 8080
Ports to forward on your router to your Dreambox IP -> 80 (and possibly 21 - not essential, only for FTP)

Initially i had the Gemini image, but for streaming I personally find the latest PLi images is thousands better for streaming so i flashed that!

Open vlc player -> open network stream -> select HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/MMS -> enter http://IP.of.Dreambox:31344

Tick "Stream/Save" and go to settings -> tick HTTP and type in the IP address of the PC that will be running VLC and the port (8080)

Choose your stream settings (these will depend on available bandwith) and click select all elemntary streams. My setup is MPEG1 - Video codec x264 at 512 kb/s - Audio MP3 64 kb/s 1 channel

On your other system/handheld or whatever, open network stream in VLC or any other decent player and enter your domain/static IP:8080 (or port that you setup on your router for your PC)

Now your VLC will stream your dreambox channel. If you change the channel remotely through enigma, the stream will also change channel... far better than only being able to watch one channel that you have chosen from dream stream.

to change channel, just ener you domain/staic IP in a browser, and you will be faced with the enigma page!

WOW!!!

And thats the problem. The method works but everyones pc's are different, codecs are different, routers are different, internet speeds are different.....

The only way to solve is to understand the method, change your settings to suit, and manually tweek until it works.
Too many variables :(.

is there no way u can stream and change channels with the remote from the box?

Cheers

i struggled to get it to stream over my lan without the picture looking pixelized and breaking up

i think the easiest way for me to do this is plug dm500s into my tv card in the pc and do it like that!

i had pure problems with the 500s,now i got a 600 all seems good,no more pixelated stream

i dont see why everyone has issues, i have now installed 3 different dreamboxes for my family and friends and this works everytime. The difference is the PLI image. If i use a gemini image, the streaming is crap... infact 8 times out of 10 it doesnt work at all...!!!

The PLI image with the old frame buffer works a treat everytime - you will need the old frame buffer release if you have pixlation issues!

Damed if I could ever get it to work right, changed image and tried dreanview but still no luck.

Dreamview / dreamstream are all crap... just use vlc and open network http://dreambox.IP:31344 and it will start to stream your dream

or when you install vlc, tick the mozilla firefox and active x plugin , and then just use webxtv! (if you use firefox that is... which you should :))

One thing that hinders streaming is also firewalls. Just make sure that your dreambox is not blocked by your firewall.

Update

As this post is getting slightly old, there are a few changes i thought i'd add:

Changes are:
-> instead of recommending the PLI Iolite image, i would now recommend the latest PLI Jade release!
-> instead of encoding with Mpeg 1/2 use x264 codec (some VLC builds crash using this codec, so use the latest stable nightly build if you have issues)

well as you talking about it sounds easy but when trying with gemini it's a nightmare and no way i get it to work. i remember when i had PLi it was so cool working great even from the web.

Hi
I am the developer of the application of the dreambox player and streamer
just to say this guide gives me the basic to develop my software
my software does nothing more than automates the process of transcoding

Hi
I thinks the protocol and codec are different when consider sending stream to mobile(Nokia,iphone..)
do you have any idea

No idea what you mean by that... i now have an iphone, but when i had the N95 with S60 i used coreplayer to play the stream from the dreambox! worked every time. Also using the x264 codec is the best quality i found!

Also try this thread! It is an easier way of setting up a stream.

Hi

I want your settings for streaming when you consider streaming to mobiles
i am using vlc .99
i know how to stream to remote desktop computer but for mobiles i never succeeded using realplayer on n95
if you can show screenshot for your settings in in this page

other thing in the list of video codecs no x264 and when i use h264 vlc crashs
which version you advice

x264 causing crashes is a known issue for some VLC releases... but then again, having read all the posts in this thread before posting, you would have already known that!
-> instead of encoding with Mpeg 1/2 use x264 codec (some VLC builds crash using this codec, so use the latest stable nightly build if you have issues)
So i guess my advice would be, use the latest 1.0 build of vlc, or indeed, go for one of the nightly builds!!!

The Guide is a general reference to streaming. Different handheld devices have various amounts of processing power, and also different users have different upload/download speeds, so the settings you choose will depend on what sort of device you are streaming to and the type of internet connection you are using - again, fine tweaking may be necessary! The settings in the post/guide where when i still used my N95, so those particular settings worked very well with a 400kbs upload stream!

Lastly realplayer on the N95 sucks balls...! get yourself another standalone media player. There are plenty of free options around, especially for S60. The best one I came across was coreplayer... This one however is not free, but with a helping hand from uncle google, im sure there's a couple of 'free' versions of that floating around on the net!

Hi
to be more specific
I do not ask about video and audio bitrate and other related settings and i know they are user internet speed dependent
my question is about output ,is it http, mms or rtsp
and the format of output(what to put in mobile device player),is it same as
example mms://dnsaddress:1234 or different

and also about encapsulation mpeg-ts ...etc
